After refusing all compensation or resettlement the Israeli High Court unanimously ruled the government had done all it could and that the highway construction would begin.

Two of the sitting judges on the Israeli High Court are Muslim Arabs.

Evidently the sticking point is a blood feud between the family of the illegal settlement and one in the town that they initially were to have new apartments built for them in.

I can certainly see the objection to them proceeding with demolition before the new appartments were built, a right wing extremist Ben Gvir was the one recently put into charge of enforcement.

He is the leader right now, and if he could bring a peaceful end to this conflict as a referee to both sides providing some sort of independent punishment for the terrorists on both sides and protect both people, that would make him awesome man in my book.

Right here, right now we are seeing what Joe Biden is capable of as the president of the US in a mess that has been created by the US and involves a strong ally of the US and a region the US wants to make amends for crap it has done in the past.

There has been no reduction. The methodology employed by the Ministry of Health in Gaza relies mostly on counting actual dead bodies. The first set of figures is that.
The second set (the supposed reduction) is the number of identified dead bodies. They discrepancy is because many are known to be women and children but that's about all - that's what happens when you drop 2000lb bombs on people.

It's also demonstrative of why the real number of dead is far higher. There are many bodies that haven't been processed by the health ministry and that proportion has increased as Israel has worked to destroy Gaza's hospitals. As such the official numbers have been climbing much more slowly in the recent past despite no let up in violence.

Total invention. There are 10,000 bodies for which one or more key data points is missing. These are identity number, full name, date of birth or death. There is no controversy that those are still dead people. They are still using the MoH numbers, they simply changed the variable that they show on their graphic.

Despite their Islamism (with which I also profoundly disagree) their worldview and political organisation actually has a lot in common with Leninism, democratic centralism et al. That is, they see the Palestinian people as human material with which to achieve their goals. This is what was behind the October 7th attacks and their analysis that the Israeli response would fundamentally alter the landscape, including in some ways that would be in their favour. They aren't much interested in governing (which is why the Health Ministry operates fairly objectively). They just want to do resistance. It's an execrable worldview. But it was pretty inevitable in the context of Fatah collaboration, corruption and all avenues being closed off to them that people would gravitate to it.
Their history of suicide bombing, hostage taking and their general human rights record is also abominable.

U.S. warns Israel has no plan to eliminate Hamas, as IDF battles regrouped militants in northern Gaza

TEL AVIV — The Israeli military intensified its attacks on northern Gaza on Monday, battling a regrouped Hamas in areas it said it had cleared and renewing questions over Israeli strategy in the war as the United States issued some of its harshest public criticism yet.

Israel has insisted that it must invade Rafah, a city in southern Gaza where more than 1 million people had sought refuge, in order to accomplish its core objective of "eliminating" Hamas' presence in the enclave after months of fighting further north.

But Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned Sunday that even a full-scale ground assault on Rafah would fail to achieve that goal.

Israel is "on the trajectory, potentially, to inherit an insurgency with many armed Hamas left or, if it leaves, a vacuum filled by chaos, filled by anarchy and probably refilled by Hamas,” he said in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

"Even if it goes in and takes heavy action in Rafah, there will still be thousands of armed Hamas left," Blinken said, noting that "we’ve seen, in areas that Israel has cleared in the north, even in Khan Younis, Hamas coming back."

It's one thing to fight a war with loads of collateral damage, it's a whole other thing to fight a pointless and largely ineffective war with loads of collateral damage.

Which is, of course, exactly what Hamas wanted and probably expected after October 7th.
