    It's time for some disobedience.

Ancalagon and to some extent it appears Evenflow have decided on a new course of direction for the Red Room.

Posts made by you the poster must conform to the topic or they will be considered "derp" and removed. Not deleted as Ancalagon assures us but placed in a new thread. This is backdoor censorship and control of what you the poster are writing on this board.

It's been said that it's because no one likes threads that ground to a halt because of what is considered to be nonsense. The claim has even been made that this decision to cut threads apart will foster more discussion. Nonsense. The goal is to create these "derp" threads which most will stop posting in as soon as they are made. After all, why waste time posting in such a thread? Is it not fair to say that eventually we won't see these "derp" threads but outright demands that "derp" stop being posted in the first place?

Now in fairness it can be annoying that threads break out into hate a particular poster fests or give and take back and forth nonsense but we all engage in this at times. All of us. Myself, all of you, engage in nonsense from time to time.

The easiest way to deal with this is to just scroll past it or to us the ignore function.

Another way is to just not engage in it. Yes, easier said then done. You see a post and you just want to wade in and give that poster the internet equivalent of a bitch slap. With both hands of course.... :D

The worst way to deal with this is for a moderator to decide which of your posts are worthy of being in a thread and which are not.

Who are they to make that call? Who are they to decide if your post meets their arbitrary standard? No doubt that each mod will have a difference and this will cause even more problems.

I say our posts in the Red Room should stand as they are where we post them. No one should have the right to tell any poster that a post is not good enough to be in a particular thread. (barring illegal stuff of course)

If posters derail a thread because they want to give it to another poster then fine. If posters derail a thread with pie pictures for example then that is fine also. The point is that we the posters should be making that call. We shouldn't have forced on us standards of posting that someone else has decided we should follow.

And yes I've heard all the arguments about "he who pays the bills" but Wordforge has always been a different animal then other bulletin boards. Wordforge is unlike any other board I've ever had the pleasure to be a member of. We are a board that actually values both sides of an argument. We are also a board where we can do stupid things like call other posters names and post pictures of those tasty pies and not get immediately banned. I can think of no active board where all those things can happen at the same time and in the same thread and by the same people. Indeed it's rather hilarious on other boards to see posters talk about how they had their feelings hurt by another poster and when you read the posts in the question you're thinking to yourself that these guys have no clue what flaming/trolling actually means.

So all I ask is that if your post is moved to a "derp" thread or any where for that matter that you simply cut and paste it back into it's original thread. No need for commentary or anything else. Just putting your post back lets the mods and the owners know that you don't accept them deciding how you will post in the Red Room.

    Thanks.

    :mob:

    Seriously though: :drama:

It's not like the posts are being deleted or any 'discussion' is being stifled. The derp-railment is preserved and people are free to join in. Heck might even boost discussion as people who didn't want to join in the dogpile b/c they didn't want to further the derailment now can and people who didn't want to post in the disaster thread b/c of the derailment now can.

This is nothing new. Thread splitting, merging, boxing etc has been happening since the beginning. Most analogous to this situation was when O2C did the exact same thing last year when Clyde went full retard and started spamming up threads.

In fact if you think back, you'll recognize that in the past there used to MUCH more warnings and mod/admin interference. Heck it used to be a warnable offense to post Media Central content in the Red Room. Remember that? If you're honest with yourself you have to admit that since the most recent change in ownership WF has in all actuality experienced the least amount of mod/admin action in its history. Name the warnings and bans. Seriously, put down the pitchfork and start pointing out warnings and bans, if you can. Show everyone the iron fist.

Just b/c at the moment the mods and admin are trying out ways to keep the place from becoming TK doesn't mean that it's all of a sudden not Wordforge. As a board we've always tried to walk the line between as much leeway as possible to foster debate and discussion without going so far as to be a spamfilled wasteland. So while just repeating 'ignore the noise' may work out fine when the signal/noise ratio is 70/30, when it gets to 40/60 it might be time to tweak strategy. But that's all it is, a tweak.

He doesn't even have the respect to type a proper response. He simply is copying previous responses he has written.

That everyone is your owner. Mr. You're Going to Post the Way I Tell You Too.

    And knowing him so well......

Anc, my copying my own posts and pasting them back into their original location is not the same as you just spamming the board with the same post because you're lazy.

    Edit: For those reading up.....

This was Anc's original response in this thread:

I guess he didn't like being called lazy.

Of course, Zombie, you realize that when you post on a private message board, that the owner has rights and privileges that extend to what you can and cannot post, and that as a voluntary member of the board, you agree to this. You have since the day you signed up. You may not like it, and that's fine, but you agreed to it when you joined. This is the way Wordforge has always been, through each administration.

And of course someone who can't read chiming in........

And no John, the previous boards owners have never gone so far as to tell posters where they may post what they write. (other then porn, illegal stuff, and that time we couldn't say Nazi cause Cass would get arrested)

Not one of them. Ever. Even at their worst moments. Not a single one of them decided that from here on out the mods can move at will another persons post if the mod doesn't think the post in question is worthy of being in the thread it is in.

ANC reminds me of some idiots I know who "manage" a piece of commercial property.

They're smart people, and sociable - but all they've done is drive away their existing tenants, none of whom are going to renew their leases. They just don't see that far out.

Who didn't read? I read your post, and my response is most certainly in reply to that post. Wordforge is a private board, and you agreed to that the moment you signed on, and it has been that way in each administration.

What more do you want? You talk about censorship like it's never been done here before, when Wordforge has a history of it, because it is a private board. You do not have a totality of free speech here, and you never did. It has always been up to the discretion of the board owner(s).

Wordforge is the members, not the board.
Essentially you have a group of people who have, in the past, consented to be governed by the owner of the domain/script we use on a web server.

In the past some have left to start other boards, but really not enough people have been pissed off.

Gingerbeard could change that if he goes full retard.

Mob rule is not, and has never been, a reasonable solution. Wordforge is certainly the members, but that does not mean Wordforge should forever be steamrolled by certain members.

So re you against mob rule, or steamrolling by "certain members?"

Because it seems like both ideas are different yet both make you wet your pony diapers.

    Whose steamrolling?

Is it the people making this new rule that if they don't think a post belongs in a thread it should be in a "derp" thread or is it the people saying, "wait a minute"?

Anc is an owner. If he choose to direct board policy, he can do so. You are a member, and while you are a valued member, you do not have that same right.

Neither. It's the people who say "we're going to disrupt the board until we get our way."

ANC owns a domain, leases sever space, and bought a license for a script.

So yeah, he can do what he wants in that realm.

He does not own the ethos of this place or the members. He would do well to realize that. And so would you.

How do I disrupt a board by returning my post to its original location where I put it?

If any disruption is occurring it's on the behalf of the moderators who've found the scissors and are now running about the board with them.

You mean aside from what I've already stated about Wordforge is its members? Aside from the fact that you still do not have the right to dictate policy, or try to disrupt the board in an effort to get a policy changed?

Your call to tell people to cut and paste responses after they're deleted for being spam, or reposting them when they're moved? You're attempting to disrupt things in an effort to push back some kind of policy you don't like. Your recourse is the Help Desk, not to disrupt the board.

"You're a valued member! But not enough value so shut the fuck up you cunt bag and post the way we want you too, when we want you too."

    That's what I heard.

I'm clearly not dictating policy. I am discussing policy though.

This is a discussion board, after all.

Help Desk? What's next a poll? Maybe twenty polls until we get the response we want!

How would a Help Desk thread help when this new "policy" has already been decided on, implemented and enforced by the very people who also man the Help Desk?

Do you actually expect me to believe I would get a different result in the Help Desk? Put down the Pony finger nail polish and think about it.......

You are. You are repeatedly posting the same messages over and over again. If I would have kept them instead of deleting them, you would have had 48 at this point, just in the Malaysia thread, and that's not counting Ron Paul or Faceman's brilliant decisions to copy you.

On any other board, your asses would have been handed spam warnings long ago, and you damned well know it.

Yes, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good idea to bring up stuff that makes WF less interesting to its members. To me, the reboxing/outboxing does just that. I realize the horsemen and you are very well intentioned. However, WF's allure to me, at least in the Red Room, has always been the free speech experiment. That means that when in doubt, you should refrain from interfering and just let posts stand as they were posted and where they were posted.

I can understand that, and I do believe in as much free speech as possible, but I also believe in respecting the spirit of the rules on the board. I feel if you don't like how something is laid out, to make a Help Desk thread. That way, everyone gets a chance to say something. As for the free speech component itself, that's fine, too, but I also think there are reasonable instances where posts that are derailing a thread can be split into another thread.

There is something be said about the free flow of posts, but if it's the same people going at each others' throats time and time again, and the topic has become so watered down as to be about anything other than what it started out being, then stepping in is a reasonable course of action. Anc felt that he should step in, so he did. That decision was made and carried out. What Zombie, Ron Paul, and Faceman are doing is the unreasonable course of action at this point. Have a problem? Take it to the Help Desk. Spamming threads and copy pasting out of spite just causes more trouble.

Free Speech, even on WF has always had limits. We aren't and have never been TK in that respect.

When diversion has gone multipaged and drowned put discussion, splitting is an appropriate way to keep both thread topics going without one drowning out the other.
