When you design a religion to be able to proselytize to everyone, you end up with a lot of conflicting gobbledygook.
He wouldn't count as a decedent of David under jewish law unless they were married. Besides, the jewsh portions of the Jesus myth came first; the other bits got added on after the fact. It was well established that mary was married by the time anyone thought to make Jesus the son of god.
His mother had also never been with a person of the opposite sex; perhaps homosexuality ran in the family. Perhaps history has construed the original meaning of "love your neighbor."
