if a contract stipulates you'll be paid on the nth of every month in arrears, am i correct in that meaning you'll be paid for the work up to, and including, that date? and not anything beyond, which would then form part of the following wage? just want to make sure i'm reading things right before i kick up a fuss.
Not necessarily. My contract stipulates I am paid on the 25th of the month in arrears, but I actually get paid for my work up to and including the last day of that month. It might be best to ask your employer.
I think you'll find that what parties are contractually bound to do and what the law requires isn't always what actually ends up taking place. If it did nobody would go to court.
Which is why I said "not necessarily" and advised to ask his employer rather than relying on a set answer from WF.
AIUI, definitely nothing beyond, but not necessarily up to the date, either. Frequently (particularly when there's a lot of over-time working or shift-swapping going on) payment periods will run until the day they do payroll, which could be a week or two before they actually pay you. The easiest way to check is to look at your first paycheck. Were you paid for more, less or exactly the work that you had done at the time? Only if you got more are you not being paid in arrears.
Well of course they do and ecky has an interest in making sure he has been paid properly. ecky I don't know how long you were working there, but if you don't feel you can approach your ex employer, as Spider said, have a look back at your other payslips. Mine actually tell me what day I am paid up to.
Which isssss whhhhy I would wouldn't revert back to the employer. What part of this doesn't make sense?
The part where Sunshine gets paid more than she needs to be paid. Which implies that although the employer has of course an interest in paying as little as possible, he might still have a different policy in this regard because of practicality, ignorance, or an effort to keep employees.
I understood entirely what you were saying. However some employers, whilst having an interest in not paying you fully, would still be honest enough to tell you what their policy is.
well, by my reckoning including the final week, its about £50 out, which i'm not interested in pursuing.
It doesn't say how far in arrears you get paid? I get paid every two weeks, one week in arrears.....so if the pay period is the 1st through the 14th then I get paid for those two weeks on the 21st.
