Well, it makes all kinds of sense. They can get in and tweak the hell out of the OS, and don't have to come up a complete one from scratch. Also, they can throw out the crap that they don't need, like support for MP3s and PDFs, as well as not having to worry about computer viruses and malware getting onboard. IIRC, the flavor they use on the rovers is Qlinux.
Here are some of the very first images from the Lander Here is a link to a whole set of others larger ones : http://fawkes3.lpl.arizona.edu/images.php?gID=366&cID=7
Woohoo!! Stayed up just long enough to see it had landed safely Great to see the first pics have come back in by this morning. And it all looks good
I have a workable idea for a manned mission to Mars! Send older, (retired perhaps) yet experienced NASA members/scientists on the trips. I'm not saying they are expendable, but should they not make it back (or make it back with their health seriously degraded) it wouldn't be a great a loss to the program as a younger member with many more years ahead of them.
I had a weird dream...it was extremely long and complicated....but the important part is this: We will soon (if not this time) have proof of life or former life on Mars. It will involve something red with three legs versus two or four or another even number. Hey, I could be wrong. But if I'm right, you will all be very impressed.
It's all photoshop nowadays. Throw in a few numbers and articles about pen-shaped ovens, and you got the masses duped.
That sounds really painful! So what studio is this all being staged at? Not sure about the studio name, but I know it's the old set from "Who's The Boss?" .
A shot from MRO showing Phoenix on the surface... amazing http://www.spaceflightnow.com/mars/phoenix/images/080527landermro.jpg
There's a dark spot in the lower right area of the photo. I wonder if that's the aeroshell and parachute.
Could be, there was a pheonix taken shot showing something shining on the surface... could be the same thing
