    Hmmmm...
Is he Formula One's Tiger Woods?
Will the US abandon Nascar for Formula One because a good-looking black bloke has broken through?
A win in Canada, a win in the US, ahead in the drivers' championship...
    Hmmm....

That Hamilton guy... is this his first season? If so, is this the most successful rookie year ever? I keep hearing about him and everybody seems to love him.

    Well.

    His predecessor was Schumacher

Yup, first season. But he was picked out as one to watch when he was five, he's been signed to McLaren since he was 13.

Yep, it's his first season and the most successful rookie season in Formula One so far. Formula One is going to be pretty interesting the next few years between him and Alonso.

He's awesome. He is now consistently outdriving Alonso. Its easily the best start that any rookie has ever had. I'd personaly put him odds on for wining the championship now, unless ferrari find a second a lap from somewhere

Don't care from where they are. As long as no Schumacher makes a comeback, I may even be persuaded to watch again

NASCAR is as good-ol'-boy a sport as you can get. They can hardly come to grips with a woman in a car.

Oh, so THAT must be why the Meijer store here, about 25 miles from a giant NASCAR track, has giant posters of Danica Patrick all over it.

I'm thoroughly disillusioned with NASCAR. I haven't watched but maybe thirty races since the 2001 Daytona 500.

I grew up going to events in the 70's and 80's. It's true that even then they were far removed from the "Stock" part of NASCAR's name, but it was still fun as all get out and it was still very, very rough around the edge. It was still about squeezing every single horse out of an engine and balls to the wall bravery, guts, sweat, and blood.

Today, it's anything but. It's formulaic, regimented, regulated into absurdity, and all the cars are identical. Only the brand badges are different. I mean, fuck, Toyota's gonna race a Camry.... A CAMRY! There's nothing "manly" about racing in a Camry!

If one of today's driver's pulled the stunts those old timers used to regularly pull, you'd get black flagged and fined $50,000. What happened to the kind of guts it took to make "The Pass in The Grass" and still win?

Oh? And actually slowing the cars down on purpose? Bill Elliot set a qualifying record of 212.809mph at the Talladega SuperSpeedway. Drafting speeds at the three and often four-wide track were usually in the 205mph plus range for even the slowest pack of cars. Now they've engineered a way to reduce the top speed to 180mph to...bunch the cars up even more! :wtf:

    That ain't racin'.

Formula One has changed a lot over the last 15 years -- it's gone too slick (for want of a better word) IMHO. Maybe it's me looking back with nostalgia though -- it just seemed a lot more exciting as a young un, and you could get up close to the cars and drivers. Up until 94 (I think it was 94) you could storm the track after the race and, if lucky, hand the winner their national flag to wave out of their car as they did the victory lap (if you had it handy, of course).

Really? I thought the FIA had banned it because of it being a safety/insurance risk?

Monza & Imola are known for tifosi though, they're the most savage fans I've ever seen so they'll be fearing a riot.

They definitely still have it at Monza, the podium is on a pier that reaches out over the s/f straight, and its always packed with tifosi around and beneath it.
