IMO the current & all future reboots have to consider this: it's all about Doctor Smith. Having (or not having) a good Smith is a game changer. Smith is the glue that binds any LOS series.
And you know what I didn't understand...... In the other Jupiter crafts it seems the people in them were in the cockpit flying when the incident happened. We know of one person, Angela, who ejected from her craft. So you could eject if you needed too. The Robinson family? Hanging out at the dinner table hoping the computer would do all the work. Yeah we just had an emergency evacuation I think I'm going to be in the pilots seat. At the very least I'll be monitoring the computer ready to take over if I need too.
If this show was committed to continuity/realism at some point their flight would have been routed through Atlanta (but not their luggage!)
Except in the case of a space earthquake, when you should seek out a doorway, or go outside if you can safely do so.
just watching the first episode with the little one. her thoughts after 20 minutes: why are they all acting so stupid? i almost tried to explain the concept of 'cheesy on purpose' to her but realized quickly enough that it would make no sense without a point of reference. i never saw a single episode of the original so... she looks happy enough though. kids seem to like it. at least mine does. me? not so much. loved the start with the card game, then stupidity became too much. it's one of those shows you want to scream at the screen to finally DO THE OBVIOUS THING!!!! anyway... is the cheese on purpose? i really don't know the original so somebody old will have to tell me not impressed with the visual side btw. seems like netflix wasn't sure about this either and didn't commit too much money.
well she's officially in love with will now. i could take him and throw him into the next ice hole. prototypical annoying know-it-all tv kid. congrats wesley, you have been relieved. i like the robot. nice job making what's basically a faceless monster into something that can express emotions.
"why are they all acting so stupid?" This is what drives me crazy about Hollywood. It seems in a lot of TV and movies they have the characters act stupid. It's like a crutch for the writers and they rely on it way too much.
The stupid plot (impossible situations resolved impossibly) are canon to the LiS world. Right down to the lower deck that don't fit the J2. I'm liking it. Casting Smith as a bat-shit crazy bitch is genius. Reversing gender roles for Maureen and John is fine. Casting Judy as a Jamaican instead of a Swede is fine. A basement filled with water after submerging the J2 in ice for days, still being able to fly it, even after jettisoning the fuel (that happened a lot in TOS) makes sense, doesn't it?
I've watched 3 episodes now and basically concur with the "Eh, it's okay" review but while i love the actress, the weakest part of this show looks like it's going to be the cartoonishly two-dimensional "Dr. Smith"
I finished watching this, and I mostly enjoyed the show. There are definitely some problems, but it was enjoyable over all. The biggest thing I noticed is that this wasn't Lost in Space. Instead, it was Lost: In Space. Although it was different stories, none of these would have been out of place on the ABC Lost series. Most predominantly, the trope of characters keeping critical information from one another.
seven episodes in and my two main reactions are - I love the cast, almost every one...and...if the robot doesn't blow a big smoking hole in "Dr. Smith" soon I'm going to lose all interest in a second season. God what a completely grating character.
Finally got around to seeing it, it was alright, "Dr. Smith" really took me out of it, in the beginning she came off as a scheme-y survivor type, but by the mid point they should have just given her a fake moustache to twirl. Also, is it just me or was the robot's combat mode a bit of an homage to spider Smith from the movie?
literally every one of my streaming alternate sources has no file for the last episode so I guess I'll have to wait until we get Netflix back
I’m about six episodes in and it’s not bad. Not Breaking Bad or The Americans, but good enough to keep me interested. I do think theees some stupidity going on, let’s not tell anyone about the murder bot, let’s not tell anyone about the giant black hole. I do like that it’s not all backstabbing and dark. It kind of reminds of The 100, in a sense that’s it’s sort of a rebuilding of society. I’m glad there are other survivors other than the Robinsons. I’m not clear on exactly what happened on Earth and where the robot came from. “Dr. smith” is completely unnecessary, IMO. My favorite character is Penny. Judy is definitely a Mary Sue, but I think the actress would play a good Vulcan. So much better than than that other lost in space show from that franchise about exploring new worlds and seeking out new civilizations though.
Just finished the first episode of the second season. There was a nice little dig at Star Trek Discovery, I guess someone on the writing staff doesn't like the show.
Something along the lines of, "we're discovering new civilizations" or something like that. There's another line similar that is a clear Star Trek reference.
I didn't really catch that as a dig so much as a nod given that both LiS and DSC were filming in Iceland at around the same time. Loving it... Parker Posey is hilarious.
fun ending with decent set ups for S3. Loved the self destruct dialogue. It ain't a deep show, but it isn't supposed to be...
