I'm so lost, is sunspot the same guy from The Gifted? And does the Gifted play into the X-men universe and is the Gifted after Logan which is after DOFP?
Nope, that's Eclipse. He's created for the show, and based on Sunspot. I don't know if/how Gifted ties in. Gotta be honest, I haven't kept up on it since the pilot.
Federal Farmer, The New Mutants movie is most likely going to be based on the original volume of the comic with the same name. The New Mutants were introduced in 1982 as the second mutant team founded by Charles Xavier. They were basically the second generation of X-Men. They had various mentors through the years including Xavier, Magneto, and Cable. They eventually became the team known as X-Force (although there were plenty of roster changes by that time). The five original members were Cannonball, Sunspot, Karma, Mirage, and Wolfsbane. Magik joins up a bit later. Both Cable and Deadpool first showed up in comics towards the end of The New Mutants 1st volume. Laura, Or X23, was a cloned daughter of Wolverine who first showed up in the X-Men Evolution cartoon before making her way to the comics. She was never part of the original New Mutants although she did later join X-Force and the X-Men.
my understanding is that The Gifted is a parallel timeline. Very near future but past the time when the Brotherhood and the X-Men (freely referenced) disappeared. Also I might add, it's the one I'm keeping up with and pretty damned impressed with. Other than the teen siblings who are ostensibly at the center of the overarching plot the show is very well cast both in terms of acting and, well, looking like comic book heroes. Eclipse and Thunderbird are great. The latter is a very good kind of low-end Superman, the boy scout type, and the former has a very fine tuned control over his powers and the show constantly explores the various ways that a man who can manipulate light can do something new and different with that ability. plus...Any Acker.
I disagree. It's a slow burn but they seem to know exactly where they are going and I'm enjoying the trip.
Interesting. That's exactly how I felt about Agents of SHIELD. A slow burn that just keeps getting better.
And the teaser for the trailer (the world we live in!) is as unbearably but well-earnedly smug as it is downright adorable.
Marvel really has done something unique here and it should be celebrated. I can’t blame Warner Bros, Universal, Sony, etc for wanting a piece of the pie. Out of all the films released so far the only one I didn’t enjoy was Iron Man 3. You don’t generally see that type of consistency in long running franchises.
Rick Jones* might be in Captain Marvel!! *For all you young kids, he was Hulk's sidekick in the comics, then became the sidekick of the male Captain Marvel**. Rick's kind of the Forrest Gump of Marvel comics, he's met everyone, and been everywhere, he's a beloved character. **There was a male Captain Marvel, and Carol Danvers was his female sidekick as Ms Marvel, then male Captain Marvel died of cancer from a poisonous gas, so Carol Danvers became Captain Marvel. Jude Law plays him in the movie.
Marvel is doing an animated movie with all the popular girl heroes, including Spider-Gwen, Ms. Marvel, and Squirrel Girl. https://www.cbr.com/marvel-rising-secret-warriors-animated-film-ms-marvel-spider-gwen/
Also, Disney officially just bought Fox, so I don't seem so crazy now having X-Men stuff in the Marvel thread do I?
