Can you offer a logical rebuttal, or is this the point in the thread when you melt down and just start posting memes over and over again?
This shit reminds me of that "Bleach" Manga I used to follow when the fandom would write nasty shit to the author when he dared focus time on the character with a the one-sided crush in the main character and not the mail female character they swore up and down would end up with main dude. I wrote "then one-sided crush" because as of the final chapter, it's no longer one sided. And the tears from one of the horrid group of shippers I've ever had the misfortune of interacting with are so very, very salty. Like John Castle levels of angry. The only difference is one will have committed suicide over it and the other is John Castle. But anyway, it just goes into that BS about how there's olny one way to interpret any given media or show and anyone that sees otherwise is an idiot or whatever. Especially with looks.
This is the third iteration of Spiderman in 14 years and you're going to complain about not respecting the source material over this ? You need your head examined.
So will you still watch it at the theater or will you withhold your dollars in protest of this horrible change to a beloved cultural icon?
Movie studios are entitled to take artistic license in their casting, so it really doesn't matter if they're true to the source material or not. You don't like it? Feel free to start your own studio. I don't have a problem with a half-black Mary Jane, or a caucasian Ghost in the Shell protagonist.
Classic Gilbert: back in the Middle Ages people used to walk around and say "you know what? This is a long time ago!" Anywho, Eugene Levy seems to be a better fit - he is one sexy smooth operator that's for sure!
Bumping for this http://www.justjared.com/2017/07/06...as-character-in-spider-man-revealed-spoilers/ In other words, it's the schrödinger's cat of updates. There. You still have redheaded MJ and a new MJ to beat off to and nothing of value was lost....except some dignity from some of you
Saw the new movie, liked the movie, liked the actress, sorta liked the character, but... ...definitely not Mary Jane. Yeah, yeah, get off my lawn, ya hippies.
I don't know. The whole thing looks very much as if they hadn't quite dared to do what they wanted to do and are instead trying to slowly creep into a black-ish not-quite-but-still-MJ. I love all the Marvel movies and expect to love this one, but they'd had more dignity in my eyes if they had just gone through with it.
This. She's not Mary Jane, she's black Daria. Which is cool, I wish there had been more development for her, but totally different character.
Kevin Feige on the whole thing. http://www.darkhorizons.com/feige-on-zendayas-nickname-in-spider-man/
White people whining about historically white characters being altered for the sake of diversity amuses me. It's only going to get worse fuckers better buckle in. Also that wasn't the only white character changed. Flash is played by an Indian kid.
I'm of two minds on it. I kind of see it your way. If they went to the trouble to give her the initials, why not pull the trigger and go all the way with it? Either do it or don't.
Ummm, maybe I am remembering things wrong because I do not read comic books, I read manga because I am an enlightened weaboo and there are only Caucasians in manga. However, didn't comic book spider man become black a while back? If Spiderman can turn black why can't MJ? Oh wait she can if you wrap her in a brown wrapper and call her a blunt and not a joint. Stupid white people problems.
Sounds like they were going for it, but then it leaked and the backlash came and they decided not to do it.
The story takes place in Queens ,New York so they would certainly be staying consistent with present day with a mixed race cast member. And the photo of her is gorgeous.
