Meh. Iron Man is dead, Capt America is gone, Black Panther is dead, Hawkeye has retired, Rhodey was crippled then replaced by a Skrull, Vision is dead, Nick Fury turned out to be a joke... there's a lot of turnover and plenty of bad decisions lately at Marvel. And it looks like it's all going to get a reboot anyway - assuming they can still keep making movies.
The current iteration of the MCU is like a smash-hit television series that probably stayed on the air two or three seasons longer than it should have. Disney should probably let things settle after Phase 5 and have a small break while they figure out the best way to reboot the whole damn thing.
Anya Taylor Joy is up for a big role in Fantastic Four. Most outlets are guessing female Silver Surfer. I would have guessed Alicia Masters, but she's a b-string character, and they're saying major role, so.... I hope she cameos in Deadpool 3 as Magik. Even if she just walks by and Colossus goes "hey, sis!".
Venom 3 has resumed filming. Tom Hardy is...quite effusive about it to put it mildly. https://www.darkhorizons.com/hardy-issues-venom-3-filming-statement/ So, even though Deadpool 3 is the only MCU movie in 2024, SSU (Sony Spider-Man Universe) is giving us Kraven, Madame Web, and Venom 3.
Two of those almost certainly being stinkers isn't gonna help dispel the "comic movies are over" narrative.
Just got back from "The Marvels". Dug it. Good mid-tier Marvel. I liked the character humor better than the first "Captain Marvel". Brie Larson had way more to do here. Wish I had known there was no final after-credits. Maybe someone told me, and I forgot. There are still fucking people who don't stay for any of the after-credits.
Oh!! And I take back everything I said about female fans not digging Carol. There was a teenage Indian girl in the row in front of me recapping her old dad about the first Captain Marvel, Wandavision, Ms. Marvel, and Endgame. Quite enthusiastically. I couldn't suppress my "well, what do I know?" smirk.
Cillian Murphy rumored to be in the running for Doctor Doom. https://comicbookmovie.com/fantasti...arvels-top-choice-to-play-doctor-doom-a208022
Forbes has crunched the numbers (the one thing I trust them to do) and Marvel is still doing pretty good. Their per-phase average compared to Infinity Saga is still not bad. They theorize covid, no Avengers for two whole phases, and burnout from all the shows as factors in the drop. I'll agree with the Avengers part; it's really stupid of them to put Avengers 5-6 so fucking far away. They haven't even really had a "Civil War" that's an Avengers in everything but name. If you cobble "No Way Home" Multiverse Of Madness" "The Marvels" and Deadpool 3 into a quadrilogy, you almost kinda have an Avengers. It feels like Kevin Feige is going into his "now I'll do a concept album!! " stage. Only The Beatles could pull that off. They got "SGT. Peppers". Everyone else gets Westworld season 2. Don't Westworld season 2 this shit, Kevin. https://www.darkhorizons.com/a-closer-look-at-marvels-box-office-woes/
Pink Floyd is progressive; their whole thing is concept albums. A divergence for them would be Raffi songs.
Westworld season 2 was a heck of a lot better than the dreck we got afterward. So, in that light, season two ain't so bad.
DanikaXIX/Comicbookgirl19 would love it if that happened. She's literally said "I want to see Rogue fuck up her shit! ".
Looks like Marvel is going to apologize for doing Wanda dirty with her own movie. https://comicbookmovie.com/tv/marve...ision-quest-wiccan-and-more-a208029#gs.1hwslo
I just hope it's not them resurrecting the character so they can do her dirty some more. If there is a bop like "Agatha All Along" involved, though, I will forgive much.
What do you mean "leave shit alone?" Serialized storytelling is a massive part of comic books, and redemption arcs have been around forever. Wanda's had more than a few in the comics herself.
That’s why I gave up on the Avengers in the 80s. It was more about the characters fucking up and having to redeem themselves than it was about them beating up on the baddies.
They should have gave the MCU a rest after Endgame. Now they ruined Wanda, killed her and now what, they’re going to pull another Wanda out of the multiverse and give her a new start?
There's still very much the possibility that we will see 616 Wanda again. Last we saw, she was trying to get rid of infinite Darkholds. The scarlet flash might mean she 'ported to safety. Also, they could give us the Black Widow treatment and do a flashback-based movie. Personally, I would like more WandaVision-like scenarios, though that doesn't lend itself to a movie. Showing us the time before Avengers 2, Or her early Avengers career or the gap between WandaVision and Multiversew of Madness could work too. Also, what they did to Wanda has little to do with giving the MCU a rest. It could/would have happened if they had slowed down the pace of Marvel projects to a crawl.
Nia DaCosta wanted more X-Men in "The Marvels". Kevin Feige told her "we have to be very calm about this". It's not tantric sex, Kevin. https://comicbookmovie.com/captain-...-more-spoilers-in-the-movie-a208043#gs.1i8qiw
you know, I thought about that... With all the drama around bringing the X-Men into the MCU, we all know how the mutant Rogue got her strength and ability to fly... so there's room within Marvel for them to do something like that but the MCU wouldn't have the balls to do that, would they?
Why not? It would give Carol Danvers the same sort of epic character arc that she had in the comics. Gains powers, loses powers, gains different powers, etc.
Taika Waititi has said he only did his Thor movies for money. Well, Ragnarok is one of the greatest movies of the MCU, so sometimes masterpieces happen by accident like that. It's not new; Irvin Kershner and Nick Meyer were just doing a job, and we got Empire and Khan.
Jennifer Garner is pretending she isn't coming back as Elektra in Deadpool 3. Tatiana Maslany lied about She-hulk, and Andrew Garfield lied about "No Way Home". Pay it no heed.
