One of the reasons I like WoW is that all of my female characters can actually choose from armor that looks like armor.

Then apparently both of you are pretty ignorant of the demographics that make up GamerGate. Frankly the implication is a fair amount of bigotry on both of your parts, if nothing else from the assumption that statement makes.

Personally I am for equal rights for everyone under the law.

I'm glad to say that we don't have anyone quite like that in our college. The closest we get is one instructor who has a reputation for being a bit of a letch.

One of the reasons I like Mass Effect is that it treats FemShep the same as MaleShep (although FemShep's voice acting is clearly superior ;) ).

I've seen individual statements -- "I'm an X and yet I'm with the Y people!", for all permutations --, but I haven't seen any actual demographic data. Do you have some?

Go to YouTube and look up any video of #NotYourShield. GamerGate is made up of people from all walks of life because the gaming community itself is made up of people from all walks of life.

Yes, thank you. Those are the individual voices I'm talking about. I wonder whether there is any actual research into how large a part of the discourse community in question they are?

How big is it when it's fully erect?

You'd think he'd understand the difference between anecdote and statistics. Or maybe he'd be content to let the Four Horsemen of Gameforge represent all gamers...

Well if you want a more serious answer, I don't especially like oversized weapons in video games though they are common. But that screenshot is from a game where you have to find your own weapons and armor as you play through. Unfortunately the best weapon I have found on that character thus far is that big ass sword called "Scourge" (and no I didn't name it). Hell, she's a monk, a martial arts character, she should be using much smaller one handed weapons.

So would you agree that the character you quoted illustrates how you're given ludicrous and ludicrously phallic images for your player character, despite your taste to the contrary?

I doubt anyone has bothered. The point is, though, that the stereotype that Anc and others have placed on GamerGaters doesn't in fact represent them, which bring me to the other point, which is that the stereotype is bigoted and frankly quite sexist in and of itself.

Oh, I see, it's not cool to point out that you can't paint GamerGaters with a broad brush based on people coming out and saying they support it and they don't fit the stereotype you're trying to say they do, but it is cool to use a minority or even one person to represent GamerGate.

This is actually a pretty interesting variation on the Anonymous problem: Who gets to represent an unorganised movement? There are extreme misogynists identifying their sexism with GamerGate, and there are also the Notmyshield people. Plus, there are trolls of all stripes. Who gets to say which is the real face of GamerGate?

Need smaller words? He's saying "Don't you think it's strange that all the weapons look like great big shlongs?"

There. Only one word with more than one syllable.

What's not cool is to say "I doubt anyone has bothered [to do any actual research]. The point is, though, that the stereotype that Anc and others have placed on GamerGaters doesn't in fact represent them..." and expect any credibility.

You're essentially saying "It's true because I know it's true and you'll just have to take my word for it."

How are these snipes you and garamet are engaging in any way superior to the people who give John shit for his enjoyment of My Little Pony?
    I'm not seeing the difference.

In GTA: San Andreas, I beat a police officer to death with a dildo.
I'm fairly sure that it was used.
    Oh well.

Actually what I've done is to illustrate that the bigoted stereotype you've assigned to GamerGaters doesn't hold true. I don't need an academic paper or statistical analysis to prove anything - all I have to do is show that it doesn't hold true, which I have done.

If someone asked John for demographics or other RL data on MLP he could probably provide it. Even if he couldn’t, he’d at least put in some effort, post some stats, a couple of articles defending his position, something. And he’d manage to do it calmly and without the schoolyard antics. “Is too!” “Because I said so!” :dendroica:

Or look at it another way: Yanno how you’ve been riding other people about their religious beliefs all these years and :lalala: at any attempt – how ever even-tempered – to defend their beliefs?

Now you know how it feels. :bergman:

I don't see anywhere in there justification for behavior you damn in other situations from other people.

You could have just said "it's okay when we do it", and been done with it.

You claim that, but fail to actually show any demographic data, instead just offering anecdotes.

And the anecdotes from WF at least seem to be that the closest gamergaters of WF comes to actually having relationships with women is one guy that sits in the same room with women for classes and another that uses a woman character in a video game.

You don't see a difference between John enjoying MLP, watching MLP, and talking about it on that basis, and you hating on feminism, knowing nothing about it, and spewing bullshit about it anyway.

There, that's a question with a full stop attached to it.

    Depends what you mean.
    Feminism dead stop?
    Fuck no.
My post record and my accumulative blog posts show that I'm for equality for everybody.
I don't sweat the evidence at all.
I know who am am, go ahead and dig.

I certainly have contempt for radical branches of it, and those branches I personally don't acknowledge as feminism, because their militance becomes sexist from another direction.
You can't make an enemy of either gender, and claim to be for equality.
    This isn't a controversial view.
I'm baffled as to why it's a stumbling block for some posters here.
