She literally said the direct opposite. They took away not only all context, but also the word 'not'. The phrase 'we have to call it what it is" continues: "a direct and deliberate lie".
https://m.tagesspiegel.de/politik/a...wir-nicht-gerade-aus-stein-sind/14576252.html @Aurora has posted a different interview, which is more recent and fits part of the English version upthread better, but doesn't contain anything that could be translated as "we have to call it what it is". The 'quote' in the OP seems to be a pastiche.
Dinner, Imma tell you what I tell my mother. No, not the bit about sheltered accommodation. The STOP READING THE FUCKING DAILY MAIL!!! bit. Honestly, the shit they publish nowadays is worse than when they were saying Hitler might have a point.
Who cares? Seriously. Let Europe fucking burn itself to the ground by inviting the whole of the fucking Middle East into it's borders.
No-go areas in Germany? Surely must be those native Germans. You know, the raucous hooligans with nothing but contempt for law and order. Also, when a politician finally admits something they've struggled to deny, you know it's a very serious problem.
Seriously. It's hilarious how some here are saying, "bad neighborhoods" when it's bullshit. It's areas that have become almost totally Islamic and the people in that area attack anyone who is not them. Just search for no go zone in YouTube and you can see videos from all over Europe. Listen to the men who are Islamic and live in these areas. They are making it quite clear that those areas belong to them and only them.
Meh, I balance it out by also regularly reading Democratic Underground and Daily Kos. I believe in reading a wide variety of view points and then evaluating evidence. My main sources tend to be NPR and BBC but I will check others regularly to see what they say to understand different positions and evaluate evidence. That is a good thing, I think.

1. Repeating a RT lie doesn't make it true, no matter how many times it's repeated. 2. Imagining for a moment that no-go zones did exist in Europe, what have the big tough anti-immigrant groups been doing about it? Why aren't the Sons of Odin out there taking back the streets? Why isn't Marine Le Pen training Christian suicide bombers right now? Why hasn't Trump ordered American troops in Germany to liberate those areas?
Can you at least update your Daily Rant with some, yanno, actual data? https://247wallst.com/special-report/2017/11/13/americas-25-murder-capitals-2/2/
We've had no-go areas in the UK, in fact there were two under 6 miles from me. There are likely some remaining in the more tribal areas like the three B's of Bradford, Blackburn and Burnley. They existed for a number of reasons, mostly down to the abject failure by governments to foster integration, good relations and trust and the refusal of politicians to give credence to problems. The response was an influx of right-wing fruitcakes. The result was riots. If there are no-go areas in Europe - and there probably is* - I'd rather like it dealt with on a saner level than having my way home lit up by burning cars. *Being non-white is not immunity from being a fuckhead, nor does it mean there aren't gangs of such fuckheads and since there are gangs of white fuckheads creating no-go areas for non-whites, the reverse is likely true.
As for Merkel ruining Germany, the re-established coalition has a shot at doing that. Voters cried out for change, and they've a continuity instead. Can't see that pleasing the population much. Suspect the next election will actually kill off the SPD. The AfD are going to revel in being official opposition. Angela Merkel just became the Arsene Wenger of politics. Sometimes you just leave the stage with your legacy intact, not hang around until a hooked cane lops around your neck and drags you off. Between that and the Italian results, the EU may want to get Brexit complete ASAP, they've other festering boils to try and lance.
I mostly agree. But what was the alternative to Merkel? A power vacuum half-filled by a group of third-tier politicians, none of whom actually want to govern -- which is what the UK looks like from where I'm standing right now?
The alternative would be new elections. That is usually what happens when there is no clear winner and no real coalition choices. It honestly does sound like the SDP sold its soul with this coalition and it sets them up for a repeat of the last round of elections where voters deserted them in droves. The AfD sounds like a bunch of fuckwits but with all the main stream parties ignoring what the people want I suspect they are going to see their support keep growing. It sounds like the main stream parties need to get their heads out of their asses, to stop doing what they want to do, and start doing what voters want them to do.
New elections wouldn't have miraculously given us able leaders beyond Merkel. And because the AfD would indeed have received even more votes, it would have made it even more difficult to assemble a majority.
You're going to get one of those at some point, may as well get it out of the way soonest. The current political environment doesn't strike me as one to foster new talent, quite the opposite.
Doesn't the current set up not run the risk of playing further into AfD's hands? The coalition is a hollow shell, based on fear of the AfD and, to some extent, the lack of stability that comes with minority government. It's short term thinking with real consequences for Germany. Both parties saw voters turn well away from them, do they think offering more of the same stuff that put those voters off will somehow entice them back?
It will play into their hands, yes, but not further; rather, a bit less far than if we had re-elections. See, one of the AfD's main Achilles heels is that they are really incredibly dumb. Not in the sense of supporting policies that I find stupid, but in the sense of being unable to write their own political speeches, which is why they crib them from Wikipedia and liberal sites and hope no-one notices; and in the sense that they are then unable to pronounce their own speeches, because syllables; and in the sense that they then don't notice that their speech supports the opposite of their own position; and in the sense that they have managed to vote against their first own bill in the Bundestag, marking probably the first time in the history of our current republic that a bill, although originally sponsored by members of Parliament, received NO votes from any of the members. On top of all of that, they keep splitting; their prime candidate literally split off from the rest of the party on the night of the election. The one thing that distracts from their circus right now is the less colourful but at least equally depressing circus enacted by the traditional parties. Having them fail to assemble a government would give the AfD actual reason to say that the real politicians can't get any politics done either. As much as the 'GroKo', the bipartisan coalition of the Union and SPD parties, stinks of compromises, chances are it will be able to run the country, albeit badly.
I'm not overly sure that will be the case. At some point over the next couple of years I'll end up in the less salubrious areas of some German city to sit down with a drink and listen to conversations for a few days - was hoping it'd be this year, the 30th anniversary of my first visit is surely deserving of a trip, but that's unlikely - which is my usual trick for getting the measure of vox populi. I'd be careful about that. Even if AfD don't learn, do not underestimate people fed up with the status quo. There's a kickback going against centralist views. Trump won. Le Pen did well. Wilders did well. The far left/right in Italy did well. UKIP achieved their objective before imploding. Even the Dave Spart Trots are back in the UK. These were groups regarded as dumb too, and mostly for good reason. Assuming their stupidity will save the day isn't a laurel to rest upon, it's a bed of roses with the thorns very much still in place and quite capable of making life painfully uncomfortable.
