Ever notice how some folks here like to bemoan career politicians and talk about the need for more "outsiders" in politics, while at the same time criticizing candidates for not having "proper experience?" Make up your fucking minds, people.

What "proper experience"? We've had 43 men take the office of President. 43 people from a while variety of backgrounds and various degrees of personal wealth and political experience. Isn't that the way it should work?

I wasn't a fan of Obama when he initially ran in '08 but I had a huge problem with the GOP bashing Obama's lack of experience when their VP pick had even less experience in any office and was a dumb as a box of rocks when she spoke.

And I'm aware that Biden was just as infamous for shooting his mouth off, but the Dems had enough sense to put a dog pound grade muzzle on him till after the election.

Career politicians and people with some experience in politics is not the same thing. Washington had experience in politics, not a career politician. Lincoln had experience in politics, not a career politician. Kennedy had experience in politic, not a career politician. Regan had experience in politics, not a career politician. Furthermore, Reagan was an outsider in his own party. Ted Cruz is an outsider in his own party. Rand Paul is an outsider in his own party. Gary Johnson has experience in politics, not a career politician and was an outsider in his own party.

Political parties don't pick the VP running mate.

And who helped him? Oh yes, northeast democrats and establishment republicans. Trump is not anti establishment, he is one of their favorite land developers.

I can certainly see how black people have not thought America was so great as they are harassed by law enforcement, have to deal with racism in all areas, have any cultural identity demonized or stolen, are often stuck in poverty by a prevalent effort of powerful racists and subconscious racism, and even if they get above it they watch their families, friends, and people of their color get abused by it. America has some wonderful things, but when you have a social wall between you and the good life you will become disgruntled and negative about it.

I personally thought we had a lot of racism on the run, and when Obama became president I wanted it to mean the racist wall was broken. Instead it just lit it up and the racists all came out of their holes. Now we have pushed them back again, and I think a lot of the better white people have discovered the importance of their voices and how staying silent all these years has allowed racism to fester and retain its strength. I hope her hope is that there are allies who care about what is done to our people of color. They are important and their lives matter. That is not white hating racism. That is recognizing that as they are successful and respected and protected parts of our community we all benefit, and we have to tell the racists and inadvertent racists that black lives matter to our existence as a country, and when you treat them with disrespect and harass them you hurt all of us. You are not making it better. You are not heroes protecting our neighborhoods. You are destroying us by destroying the people in our communities. I personally am not going to stand by and take it because the pain your harass nth causes them hurts me much more than any insult or retaliation you will throw at me.

Based on this statement, I think you'd have to agree that Obama had experience in politics, not a career politician.

If you are referring to me being a registered republican for the sole purpose of voting for Ron Paul in the primary, yes, for one vote I was a registered republican . I wrote in Ron Paul's name in 2012. I changed my registration after that. I guess that makes me a RINO.

I think the dems should have ran Hillary first due to experience, and brought Obama up into a preparatory position to gain the experience. I was for McCain just for the fact he was more experienced with war and government than Obama, but you are absolutely correct that there was no way someone of Palin's idiocy could be so close to the presidency, and as influential in foreign and domestic matters as a vp. People may joke a vp does not do anything, but they do things and she would be representing us and there was no way. Biden may be a bit unrefined, but he is not blithering idiot.

I could be wrong, but I do not think Michelle is going into politics. Hillary was a different first lady. She pissed people off because it was clear she was not just there to smile and wave. Michelle is more like a Nancy Reagan only with more education and better projects. Nancy as very strong and influential in the anti drug area, but she did not seem to be heading beyond activism. Michelle seems to have a number of important issues and it looks like she will make a ace in activism over political service. I could be wrong, and after she has ing her for the last two terms I would not be bothered to see her make a go at congress or a executive appointment. I also would not fault her if she did not want to bother with us anymore after all the unwarranted crap that has been thrown at her.

That's actually what I thought was the plan. No one expected the young senator with one term uder his belt had a hope and a prayer of usurping what would be have been the easiest path to nomination. Hilary was expected to dominate 2008 coming off the heels of Bush.

Sorry kid, but you are not a libertarian. I know a lot of republicans want to get away from the stigma of ignorance around the party, but you would lose your shit if a libertarian ever became president. Being a libertarian is a little more than sleeping with your gun and wanting legalised weed.

I don't see why not. Her husband was elected because he's black. Certainly that would be her "advantage" as well.

It goes along with history. Black males seem to get there first. I think the US was ready for both, it is just that we can only have one at a time. At this point whether you like her or not there is no one with Hillary's experience for the job. I do not think Bill is as qualified as she is at this point.

Surprisingly, Bill Clinton has all but faded into the background this time around. I seem to remember people assuming he'd be trying to run things eight years ago and a lot of criticism over Monica Lewinsky and why she stayed....I'm imagine for the same reasons many other women stay with far less wealthy/powerful men that stray: :$:

His dad made a fortune in real estate. He would have done better taking the money he inherited from his dad and sticking it in a mutual fund (particularly if he did it during a Democratic presidency).

And you don't think that his general poise and eloquent speaking had anything to do with it?

If you think being black "helps," why didn't we get a flood of blacks voting Republican for Herman Cane?

I'd be lying if I said it didn't help at all, but not being a trust fund baby as Dubya was and preaching about the good things in America along with stating his goals and agendas helped more.

Anyhoo, Michelle Obama's not going to run. For president or anything else.

Hillary Clinton may or may not have harbored presidential ambitions when she was younger, but she always sought a public life. Michelle Obama did not particularly want a public life, and she wasn't all that happy about her husband running for president.

Oh. Huh. Never read or heard the whole quote.

For anyone who's reading comprehension impaired, it's obvious that this is the first time she's proud for that reason. Not that she's proud for the first time, and this is why. There's no better sentence construction to indicate the former, and quite a few better ones to indicate the latter.

I think I'd rather have Michelle Obama on the ticket than Hillary Clinton then. :marathon:
