It's not a question of life expectancy so much as energy level. Admittedly Warren has fantastic energy for a 67-year old, but at age 75, even if you have the best health care you can and many years ahead of you, even if your mind is at 100% and relatively likely to stay there, you're much more likely to have declining and rapidly declining ability to do the job of President. I think the two candidates this year are already pushing it on age for a first term.
I heard the same arguments about John McCain eight years ago. He's still sucking oxygen. Cheney has had four hearth surgery after heart surgery and no signs of keeling over yet. Pretty sure Bernie is in thst same age bracket, too.
I tend to agree. Just look at how much that job ages the incumbents. It's like 8 years are 25 years when in office. Also, what about the young? Gerontocracy is the way we'll go but the young will need a champion of they should continue to support us geezers.
Certainly the tail end of the Reagan administration would argue for younger presidents, and he was 69 when he took office -- although it's hard to say how much of that was age and how much was his pre-existing intellectual laziness. George H.W. Bush is 92 and in pretty darn good shape -- and if he for some reason had to go back into the Oval Office today, he'd probably be more mentally up to the task than W would be.
