Guys, bit of an ASAP emergency here, the stallioness has got a big document which she needs to complete tomorrow. Somehow she has managed to do something to word where it no longer puts the red underline under her spelling mistakes.

Obviously this is my fault!

Any idea how to fix this? Lots of rep will be bestowed for good quick responses.

Tools... Options... Spelling & Grammar tab Check the box for "check spelling".

Don't worry about rep - "be excellent to each other" :)

Tried that mate but it doesnt seem to make any difference. It'l show up new words spellt wrong i put in but not the existing ones. I even tried to select all and paste into a new document but no more joy.

I'll have a better look at it tonight after she gets finished and i concentrate on this in peace.

    Cheers

I've got MS WORD 2003 sp3. I don't know if that makes any difference or if it's a problem with the file size or something else. Will it show errors in smaller documents?

Try pasting it into notepad, then pasting the result into a new word document. That should strip out any sneaky formatting that's turning off the spell-checker.

Of course, she'll lose the rest of her formatting, too.

You might have changed the language code of the text. If Word doesn't know it's in English, it won't check the speelling. Have a look at the "language" setting in Tools.

It just seems shafted now to be honest, tried spiders plan, nae joy. Seems to fix things at the end of the document in the references section but thats it. Even when I deliberatly mis spell something at the start it wont show up till I manually tell it to start spell checking, and even then, its only the new word and nothing else.

I'm going to try and take it into a more up to date version of word at work tomorrow, see if that helps, if not hopefully one of the ICT guys can spare some time.

    Cheers

If word thinks a document has been checked, it wil flag all the words as checked and ok. To get word to forget that and re-check all words regardless
go to Tools-options-spelling and grammar-check document.
That should re-scan every word in the document.

If that doesnt work, or if it does but only on that occasion and new documents aren't checked then you need to check other options in the 'spelling and grammar' pane

DL - that's brilliant. Yet another example of how MS is making all lives simpler and easier with their intuitive user interfaces.
