Like we did when Trump had more of them at this point in his Presidency than Biden has had?

That fucking article is an absolute pain in the ass to read due to the layout on a 32" monitor, so forgive me if I don't bother with it.

I will, however, point out that all three of those come in the wake of Trump rolling back regulations during his administration. So, just like Clinton should share the blame for the economic collapse of '08 due to the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, Trump should get at least some of the blame as well.

Oh, and at least one of those other banks that collapsed did so because of the SVB collapse, and SVB legally, offered a number of services that were unregulated, and this is what led to their collapse. Not necessarily an indication of economic decline, but something worth paying attention to, to an extent. Sort of like when several months ago, there was talk about a diesel fuel shortage that never actually came to pass.

I'm not even going to bother with trying to figure out how it all relates when you factor in things like inflation, how much they're tied into other investment firms, and the general economy. Because while they are important, they're also irrelevant to a large extent because if we have another financial collapse, our choices are going to boil down to the party led by the guy who went bankrupt five times and a party led by a guy who was part of the team that got us out of the last collapse. I'm not going to say that Biden would be able to successfully handle such a thing, but I'm certain that he'd handle it better than a guy who owned a bunch of casinos and still managed to go bankrupt.

New vacancy just dropped in the House.

    https://twitter.com/rawstory/status/1663624504373833736

Unless in the next seven days the Utah leg authorizes funding for a special election McCarthy will be down a vote until Nov 8.

Now they might. As red as it is Utah is a well run state. So thanks to the Biden Boom they are probably running above budget assumptions in terms of intakes.

Hey @Uncle Albert I recognize that you are the kinda person that like @Bill Carson also closely follows the trends in the World/US distillates market and don’t just latch on to the utterance of any random right wing YouTuber flapping their gums.

So both y’all recognize the wisdom of Biden selling off a literal record number of barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in response to of (in modern economic terms) a historic health/economic crisis to stabilize prices; since the entire purpose of the SPR is to stabilize prices.

I mean he accomplished the goal of the law as written by Congress more than any other president in the history of the US. And that in and of itself y’all as ‘libertarians’ should really appreciate yes?

I mean y’all both REALLY care about following the USC, yeah?

And y’all really care about about the debt yes?

So both of you are just completely enthusiastic about the fact that Biden has utilized the law written by Congress for the intent by Congress and then put money into the Treasury… ?

    Sorry, sorry, sorry….

I forgot you have both Social/Emotional Cognitive Disabilities.

I was about to ask a nuanced question which considering y’all’s disabilities would have been unfair.

    Let me restart.

Let me confine it to an easy yes/no question.

Was it good that in times of a supply crisis Biden sold oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve at an average of $95 a barrel and now has finalized contracts to replenish it with oil at $73 a barrel?

    Was that good?

I know you are both very busy so you only have to answer ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.

    Yes?

    No?

Maybe the amount of words scared y’all off from answering.

@Uncle Albert and @Bill Carson as folks obviously concerned with the SPR (as evidenced by y’all being seriously concerned with Biden using it) was it good that in times of a supply crisis Biden sold oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve at an average of $95 a barrel and has now finalized contracts to replenish it with oil at $73 a barrel?

    Was that good?

    Yes?

    No?

I think @Bill Carson and @Uncle Albert are ignoring you because of the no math in the red room rule and they would not want to make the mods angry and get banned. We all know they are the type to be super worried about things like that.

Is it really that hard of a question?

Was it good that in times of a supply crisis Biden sold oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve at an average of $95 a barrel and has now finalized contracts to replenish it with oil at $73 a barrel?

C’mon even for you two it shouldn’t be that hard to answer.

As usual, there's more to the story. That figure is above their stated goal.
    https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing...ty-encourage-production-and-bring-down-costs/

Apparently there was an opportunity in March to purchase oil at a much cheaper price.
    https://twitter.com/JavierBlas/status/1636361523206692867
And a major new outlet pointed this out at the time.
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/rrapie...-strategic-petroleum-reserve/?sh=6dbe8de0514e

So he had a chance to buy oil back at a lower price than his stated goal, but instead bought it back at a higher price than his stated goal.:blow:

Question, how many RFPs involving Federal Funds have you ever overseen?

My biggest one was only $750k but the hoops you have to jump through and boxes you have to check even at that level are extensive.

That you seem to think Biden’s watching CNBC sees a favorable oil spot price and can just call up Treasury like it a stock broker and yell into the phone “BUY, BUY, BUY!” is fucking hilarious to me.

I guess it was wrong for Biden to have an ambitious goal and then do really well, but not as well as he'd hoped.

Of course, had he set a lower goal, the response would be "well, sure he met expectations, but he made sure his expectations were low!"

I know that if I set a goal and I don't meet that goal I don't do a victory lap and pronounce myself a winner.

If you ask your boss for a $20,000 raise and you get a $10,000 raise, you still got a $10,000 raise.

Cute, but no. More like you're looking for a car, a friend points out that there's a car that you're looking for at a cheaper price that's in your price range, but you pass then later on buy a car for more than what was initially in your price range. Then your friend is like, "should've taken that cheaper car I told you about a few months ago" and you reply, "well at least I didn't pay full price." Okay, bud, whatever you say.

Okay. So you think it was great that Biden released oil during a supply crunch, saving Americans hundreds of millions, possibly billions at the pump and is in return will make hundreds of millions more on the deal.

But it would have been even better if he had broken Federal Law by bypassing regular procurement regulations to make a few millions more?

Or maybe you wanted him to Declare a State of Emergency to be able to bypass the regular procurement regulations?

What would be the basis for this Declaration or should he have just made something up?
