So I've been reading about what's going down in the Congo and came across some photos of General Nkunda.

I was gonna post a photo of me in my cammies on a balcony in Thailand. But I looked at it again and it is a sort of crappy photo actually. :(

Anc, what do you think of the new Air Force uniforms? I think they're not too bad. And IIRC, they ditched the "Smurf boots" (initially they had a blue suede boot. )

You don't wanna share, it's cool.

Blue suede? That's Elvis, not Smurfs.

I think they look pretty sharp. I'm glad they ditched the blue tiger stripe idea for a greenish-tan color. The first time I saw them in person was last Thanksgiving when I did a story at a local restaurant who was putting on a big T-day feast for a bunch of recruits from Lackland.

I was at a Veteran's Day event yesterday and noticed a female AF chick wearing suede boots that were kind of green looking. They looked pretty good compared to the tan suede boots that the other AF people were wearing.

Strictly from a looks standpoint, I don't like the tan suede boots at all. I've seen too many of them that looked really shitty from stains and scuffs (even on colonels, both light and full bird). The greenish boots look like they'd hide dirt and such a whole lot better.

Yeah, I think the Air Force did pretty good with their new utility uniform. The "tiger stripe" pattern isn't too overt, but it is enough that it doesn't look like they just picked up a bolt of the Army digicam fabric. As for the actual cut of the uniform, from what I've seen, it appears to be pretty much the old BDU, just in a different fabric.

As far as the boots, they ditched the blue/green suede in favor of the tan that the Marines and the Army went with. I dunno that either works really. If I was the Air Force fashion designer I'd consider maybe a black or even grey suede.

I'm seeing more and more rumblings that the Navy is finally fielding their new utilities too. It should be interesting to see what they look like.

And because I'm a shameless attention whore and Lleellana is teasing me, I present the first and finest of the new uniforms:

Pretty much the same as Marine digi-cam but blue-grey in color.

Just looking at the new Army uniform, the first bitch I have is the Fu manchu collar. No rank on the collar, but it's on a tab on the chest? Fuck that! The beret is faggy enough, but a tab on the chest?

And now that the Army is doing away with the Greens and going exclusively with the Blues, I can't wait to see how fucking retarded some paratrooper looks with his pants tucked into his Jump Boots.

Just go back to the WW2 khakis and Ike jackets for Class A and B and the Blues for Formal.

You know where that came from, right? The need to sort out whose pants were whose when they all go to the ship's laundry.

You Army guys might have a grasp on that shit if you ever washed your clothes. ;)

AFAIK, they made the collar that way to protect the neck from chafing from body armor.

    Makes sense to me.

Compared to the new Marine (or even AF) uniforms, though, I just don't like the cut of the ACU. I've never seen one worn that didn't look sloppy and ill-fitting.

It's not the cut of the collar, just the fact that rank (and for officers branch) isn't on the collar. Just get the sewable rank on both the inner and outer collar so that no matter how it is worn I can see the rank.

I remember when they first started issuing those Gore-Tex rain parka things and the cool little tab in front so you could see the rank (the parka covered up whole top of the uniform).

Only POGs wear GoreTex. I recently had to buy rank and get my name sewed on it for WLC.

Or if you're at any higher command that has controlled access.

I, being a Marine and therefore a rational warfighter, wear my access badge, clipped to my right breast pocket.

Now Army REMFs love to wear a nice nylon garrote around their neck--one that is just long enough that the badge hangs over their rank.

[oh and sweet mother of Elvis, last week I ran into a Navy LtCdr in the old-school utilities. He had no starch in his 8 point cover (cap/hat) and it was poofed out like the fucking Pillsbury Doughboy. On top of that he had it perched on his head like he was a truck driver or something. On top of that he was completely lost. I felt a little sorry for him, but it was physically painful to watch him.]

    Better get one that!!

Whereas I'm not hot for guys in uniform, I do think they look nice. Not sure why. But I'm not a fan of that new digital thing they've got going on. Looks strange after seeing the blotchy camo so much.

Edit: We have a base here with an annex so no matter where I go I see a few AF people around.
