I did give you one particular option, but I have given several other options, though they would be board-wide in how they were implemented, and aren't an optimal solution.

I don't want it now. You're being as dense as John. You said post your problems in a separate thread. I did that. I didn't demand it be done yesterday. I made a suggestion that perhaps a project would be to find a solution to this problem. The thread was going fine until John showed up, made a suggestion that has zero to do with the thread and then claims he gave me options.

I didn't ask John to do anything. I didn't demand he do anything. I didn't demand he tear the board apart.

You gave an option that has nothing to do with the problem.

To put this in a language you understand:

You're missing the purple pony in your collection and I say you should go buy Optimus Prime.

Both toys BUT neither has anything to do with the other.

Then when you complain I go off on a tangent about how I gave you options.

    That's what you did.

The last part of your post said this:

I offered to find a software solution, and at the very least, I tried to present you with an option that would let you keep your quote alerts active, but prevent alerts from triggering when someone replied to someone else. Unfortunately, there is no sure software solution beyond that, and even that solution is rather flawed due a limitation in the user interface. It is, however, the only one at the moment that comes close to addressing your problem, while also having the ability to allow for others to do so automatically without requiring major intrusion into the board's templates. The other solution, presented by evenflow, requires users to consider who might get an alert trigger when they're responding to someone else, and a third party quote is caught in the middle, which would trigger a notification. In that case, they instead are to choose to use the @ tags instead. That is a good idea, so long as people abide by it. My post content was quite relevant to your problem, regardless of whether you like it, or the person from whom it originated. It just wasn't the best solution, and while evenflow's is better, it only works if everyone cooperates. A software solution would remove that uncertainty.

    My God!!!!

    Why can't you understand this......

#1 I am not watching any threads. I AM NOT WATCHING ANY THREADS!!!!

#2 If I uncheck the watching threads box in the notifications center it means nothing. Why? SEE #1.

#3 Even if I uncheck the watching threads box in the notifications center I will still RECEIVE multiple alerts when two users are quoting each other and they also quote my original post. (as I presented in my very first post on this subject) Why? Because notifications that people quoted you has nothing to do with notifications that people posted in threads you are watching. And since I'm not watching any threads I do not receive those type of notifications. In order to receive an alert that someone posted in a thread I'm watching I have to WATCH the thread. Which I am not doing.

#4 The only alerts I receive: Someone quoted me. Someone tagged me. Someone like my post. I can not receive notifications that someone posted in a thread I'm watching because I'm not watching any threads.

You telling me to uncheck the box for alerting me when someone replies to a thread I'm watching is meaningless. I'm not watching any threads so the system is not sending me any alerts that someone posted in a thread.

Understand this: Telling me to uncheck the box so the board won't notify me when someone posts in a thread I'm watching is not going to work because in order for the board to alert me I have to first tell the board I'm watching the thread. And I haven't done that for any thread on this board.

The only solution at this point is the one offered by Evenflow. You've offered nothing except showing how unwilling you are to pay attention.

Thread Watching is set to "on" by default. When you post, that thread is automatically added to your subscription list.
Calm down, you're getting upset over nothing.

    NO IT'S NOT.

Gee board how many threads am I watching........

"You do not have any watched threads that are unread."

Gee board how many forums am I watching.......

"You are not watching any forums."

Gee board do I have the box checked for Automatically watch threads that you create or when you reply...

"No. The box is not checked. Also the box to "and receive email notifications of replies" is also not checked." (FYI both those boxes have been unchecked since day one)

So once again John is wrong. I am not automatically subscribing to any thread.

Have you tried to see if your computer is indeed plugged in?

Is the modem turned on, and blinking?

Have you tried taking the cartridge out, and blowing on it?

Have you paid your power bill?

Threads are set to be watched anytime you create a thread, or reply to a thread. It is possible that yours was setup differently, but the above image is the default registration value set. So no, I'm not wrong when I say the defaults are set to automatically watch.

I just told you that option is turned off for me. I turned it off myself on day one.

I RECEIVE NO ALERTS OR EMAILS FROM WORDFORGE THAT SOMEONE POSTED IN A THREAD I AM WATCHING BECAUSE I AM NOT WATCHING ANY THREADS.

I AM NOT WATCHING THEM AUTOMATICALLY NOR AM I CHOOSING TO WATCH THEM MANUALLY (WHEN YOU REPLY OR CREATE A THREAD THE OPTION IS THERE).

I DO NOT LIKE GREEN EGGS AND HAM.

I only receive alerts when someone quotes me, someone likes my post, or someone tags me.

For example: I received an alert that someone, YOU, quoted me in this thread. I did not receive an alert that you posted in this thread.

If I had subscribed to this thread I would have received two alerts. One that you quoted me and one that you posted in this thread. However since I turned off the automatic subscribe function and since I do not subscribe to watching any thread I only got the one alert: The alert telling me that you quoted me.

Now if Anc came in and quoted you then I would get an alert that he quoted me since my quote is contained within your post that he's quoting. If you then quoted him back I would get another alert that you quoted me. If he quoted you again I would yet again get another alert that he quoted me. You guys could go on for 100 posts without my involvement but as long as you quote my original post in your quotes to each other I will get an alert.

If you can't understand that I do not watch threads, I do not automatically or manually subscribe to them and therefore your "solution" is anything but then please stop replying and go play with your ponies.

    1. If it set to watch threads as default, then John is correct to suggest it. How is he to know you have turned that off?

Okay, looks like there is no currently available technical solution to satisfy the OP. Hopefully board culture will move in the direction of more tagging and less quoting. And perhaps a technical option will come along at some point. At any rate, this demand request seems to have run its course.

@Zombie, do you wish to add anything, or should we close this one?

    I'm sorry.

I thought that everyone on this board had enough intelligence to see that I was not talking about subscribed threads.

I thought everyone would be smart enough to know that when I posted:

i was talking about quote alerts.

I then thought everyone would understand when back in post 15 when I clarified things by saying I wasn't watching any threads that they would have enough intelligence to take that to mean that I wasn't watching any threads and that I know enough of the board to have unchecked the automatic watch threads box.

    Apparently I was wrong.

    You don't have the intelligence.

Okay, nothing more to see here. A solution has been provided. We'll look for a better solution. Seems the discussion has run its course.
