Don't you see you are not regarding him as always right so obviously you are blind to that vacant you be open minded about things and just accept his closed viewpoint? You just sit there rejecting him because he rejects knowledge. You say rejection is bad but you are totally doing it.

It is amazing these arguments actually work for some people.

Trump is having memory problems now or so he claims. When asked about the meeting where George P testified that members of the Trump campaign and Trump himself encouraged him to continue trying to make contact with the Putin regime... Trump now claims to not be able to remember events.

This also fucks up Jeff Sessions because he was also in the same room when collusion with Russia was discussed. Sessions has already testified twice and had to correct "mistakes" (read lies) he told during his first testimony. Now he has pretty much been caught directly lying about collusion with a foreign power to undermine national elections. So both of them are in trouble.

Trump's memory wouldn't be a problem if he hadn't made a big deal of having "the greatest memory ever" and bitched about Hillary's "I don't recall" moments during the Benghazi/email hearings.

It is so good if you to be "honest" about the results of the brain scans you conducted. When was this, by the way?

Everyone changes over time. But you went from New York City to San Francisco while claiming all along that you're in Topeka, Kansas.

Everyone here can see what's gone on in your life and how your views have changed, and you're not even remotely close to unbiased.

Sean, and I, and a whole lot of others have known Nova for well over a decade and a half. Going all the way back before this board even existed.

We knew her when she was a rabid right-wing religious fanatic who would have made your blood curl in horror if you had the pleasure of meeting that version of her.

So when Sean says Nova has simply changed one set of blinders for another set he's talking from the experience of knowing Nova for as long as he has.

    So shut the fuck up.

Nova changed her ideology and gender. She’s still the same in all other regards.

Blinders. Big ones. Just from the left now instead of the right.

That you think he said that means you have the same type of blinders that Nova has.

I make no pretense that they are unchanged.

The point at issue is WHY are they changed?

I have had quite a few transwomen friends on Facebook (fewer now after 2016) who were transitioned for years but still passionately conservative. It's not at all a given that being trans forces you to move leftward politically.

In my case, however, it required of me that I consider that this was not the only subject I'd been lied to about.

    exactly so.

The distinction lies in how aware one is of their biases, and how willing to challenge the ones they are aware of.

I have changed my views, but not as he and you describe them.

I moved from a wholly enclosed echo chamber in which all information that did not affirm my worldview was defined as completely untrustworthy and dangerous - not to be considered.

What I moved into was a maelstrom of competing assertions and contradictory claims which all have the opportunity to convince me of their position. I certainly concede a certain bias - sources which spoon fed me demonstrable bullshit for years have a much higher burden of proof in any claim they make to me now. But also, having escaped one echo chamber I'm aware of the dangers of settling into another one, so there's not a source I trust unequivocally. However, my bias lies in this: if source A makes a claim that is, to appearances, "liberal" and it is directly countered by a claim made by, for example, FNC or The Blaze or Red State or Daily Caller...I'm biased towards assuming the "liberal" claim is probably true because the other sites have a track record of lying to me.

See there's the bias you are aware of, and guard against indulging - which is natural - and the bias that convinces you that everything you believe is correct and those who dispute you are biased idiots. I'm possessed of the former, not the latter.

Changing positions isn't the same as exchanging on set of blinders for another. Neither one of you has explained why you think she has blinders on. In fact due to her having lived the otherside and still literally living in Red America she is probably one of the most knowledgeable and understanding of the otherside (you know the opposite of having blinders on).

speaking of podcasts, I've become a mega fan of "Freak Out and Carry On" - just, in general. The discussions of the intersections between current events and historical ones are right in my wheelhouse
