Though I would really pay to see @Dinner shit himself noticing a Muslim police car in his rear view. When I say shit himself I mean like Ted Nugent receiving a draft notice shit himself.
That uniform looks nothing like a cop uniform. It's a dude wearing a black windbreaker with a gray reflective material striped around his torso, arms, and collar. He has no gun or badge. Hell, his outfit looks less like a cop uniform than most private security I've seen. The NYPD's coats look nothing like this guy's coat: I'm fully aware that cops wear different uniforms depending on their specific duties, weather, and the types of events they're at. Here's a Google Image listing of NYPD uniforms. Please feel free to point to the uniform that you think this guy's outfit looks so much like, such that it would cause confusion.
What I think you neglect to consider is that the sight of anyone in a blue-and-white wearing dark clothing strikes an immediate - if negative - reaction in certain groups that have had bad interactions with the police in the past. It's a visceral thing. Maybe if these guys do more one-on-one outreach there'll be less fear. Of course, its being NYC, there'll still be some MAGA bozo deciding to take inspiration from the likes of @Dinner and "kill me some A-rabs."
Here's one of the uniforms of Aegis private security, a company that operates in the New York area. It looks a hell of a lot more like a cop uniform than the man in this story's uniform. Aegis even lists "Police Style Uniformed Security" as one of their offered services: From: http://www.aegissecurityguards.com/security-services.html Your average person is far more likely to confuse the above uniform for an actual cop.
It will come. We saw this exact same thing happen in places like the UK, Germany, and recently in Austria and in each case it quickly degenerated into trying to force Muslim behaviors on to everyone else. Give it a year or two and we will no doubt see the same thing happen again. It is a clearly defined pattern at this point.
Those countries tend to be more hostile to immigrants. America was built on immigration and the promise that when you become a citizen you’re an American first and anything else is how you enhance the rest of us. That’s why America doesn’t really see the same issue with the Muslims who live here. They move in and within a generation they’ve completely blended in. I see Muslims at Starbucks and Wal-Mart on a regular basis like white, black, Hispanic, Asian or anyone else. I saw a woman in a full burqa the other day enjoying an iced latte. Stoking fears about these Americans is wrong and an attack on what made us the country we are. They just want to live in peace and make a better life for their children like everyone else. They don’t want to hurt anyone or force their beliefs on others. Maybe if those other countries were more inclusive those communities wouldn’t feel so isolated and attacked that they have to strike back and harm others. A cornered person is going to fight back and you’re wanting to corner them which is going to get the behavior that your prejudice expects. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy and one that will hurt all of us.
I raced go carts against a Muslim woman in a full burqa. Of course I had sense enough not to attempt to talk to her but her husband was quite talkative with me.
Most people regardless of race, religion, sexual identity, gender, or politics tend to be fairly decent when you get to know them. Being hateful and afraid of others is a waste of time and rob you of opportunities.
And here is an ambulance that services Jews only. Looks just like any other ambulance, but who cares?
You clearly do. It’s likely due to some religious belief that extends to medical treatment, mainly for the stricter groups since I’ve known some Jewish people eat pork. I wouldn’t be surprised if communities with a lot of Jehovah Witnesses have something similar given their beliefs about blood transfusions.
"Community Patrol" rubs me the wrong way. If you want to convey to your community that these are people who will look out for you (when the cops might not), you can accomplish the same thing with a name like "Muslim Community Service Corps" and not have the law enforcement overtones.
Given the poor state of public safety in US cities relative to the rest of the developed world, I'm inclined to welcome any organized force dedicated to preventing/resolving crime. As some have mentioned, it would be a problem if they started enforcing Muslim moral codes, but I think it unlikely that they would.
Hell yes! And if the rent-a-cop isn't super fat or old I would indeed think he's some type of actual cop.
Why do people like you always blame the victim and not the fascist scum forcing their beliefs on to others?
Look at the last five presidential elections and you will find the average is around 40% with Trump doing the worst and Bush jr doing the best.
What beliefs are being forced on people? Because it looks like you’re terrified of people different from you and can’t stand the thought of them being near you.
Why? It has nothing to do with your “argument” unless you’re also against it for some reason. Do you want a white’s only ambulance?
Because if you knew anything about Crown Heights and Chabad, you'd understand that even the ambulances have to be kosher. I'm sure there's no Christian sect anywhere in America that would drive an ambulance away from a Muslim, Jew, atheist, or someone who wasn't "light enough."
They want legal protection to be able to deny treatment to “lifestyles they don’t believe in” meaning leaving a gay or trans person to die in the street. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d try to expand that definition.
In this case, nothing so far, as we have all agreed. We were discussing the examples in Europe claimed the sharia patrols which have popped up in various European states were some how due to everyone else and not the fascist scum who were carrying them out. You are absolutely wrong about that. The criminals made those choices and they alone are responsible for their actions.

Would this have been a better, less controversial option for them? ---> NYPD Auxiliary They could accomplish EXACTLY the same thing they claim they are setting out to do, without any religious overtones. After all, they claim they want to be there 'for the whole community, not just muslims.' Same for the Jewish and Asian groups. Thoughts?
