A week ago. garamet posted a picture in the green room picture thread, PO photoshopped it in a not very flattering way and garamet retaliated by googling a picture of PO dressed up for holloween.

Can you see that what I did was relay the events that happened?

    Yes.

Clearly she should have been allowed to post Peter's real name whenever she liked with no repurcussion.

And since you think so, you won't mind if I go a'looking for your name, address and phone number to share with the class, right?

Rules are rules. I love Garamet to pieces and miss her around here, but you follow the rules as they are.

Oh, and is this a bad time for me to mention my name really is Jesus H. Christ?

Actually, my name was common knowledge before the article. I've never hidden it. There was discussion here once before the article when someone used it but I told the admins that my name had always been public and I didn't care if it was used.

I don't think being in the Entertainment section of the L.A. Times makes me a public figure though, *chuckle*. Not hardly.

Common knowledge to who? I never went looking for it. Didn't care.

And being in the newspaper and saying my name is X and my handle is T'Bonz is enough to make you a public figure.

    ;)

Ok, that makes a LOT more sense. So Kirk's name isn't off-limits because he posted it on TrekBBS rather than on WF, but because he posted it by mistake rather than deliberately.

By this logic, had he mistakenly posted it on WF, it would also be off-limits; and had he deliberately and repeatedly posted it on TrekBBS, we could use it on WF.

That way, the rule actually makes sense. Of course, it's also completely at odds with what pretty much everyone has been claiming so far, but even if it is a belated justification for a previously purely arbitrary rule, it does make sense now.

    That, too.

Someone once found my real life name from a Google search from a review I left at Amazon, posted about two years before the incident involved. In fact, I was floored to find out where this person found it, since I'd forgotten about it, and since it was the first and only review I'd left on the site, I didn't know how to make my name private.

So, I can understand the rule in place about not bringing personal information from other sites here. Yes, that includes TBBS, because 1) Not everyone posts there and 2)Many that do don't keep that close tabs on everyone else. I'm one of the TBBS folks who didn't know about that picture, since I didn't visit TNZ at that time.

Well semi-common knowledge then, LOL. I assure you, the trolls found it early on and posted it thinking I'd wet myself or something. I was like, "so?". Those who wanted to find my name had no problem finding it.

I have no problem with it being used here, there or anywhere, never did. I gave WF people permission to use it long before my name was in that article.

But I would argue the "public figure" bit. I'm a nerdette running a nerd board and no one outside of my family, friends and a part of the online Star Trek community know me. I'm hardly a "public figure", *chuckle*.
