Yikes. I just spent an hour browsing the NaNoWriMo website forum. I now know where the loads of garbage publishers have to wade through come from. So here's my suggestion for anyone participating in NaNoWriMo: be careful when visiting the website! It will either make you fear you're actually one of 'them' without knowing it, or vastly superior to 'them' which can't be a good thing either, as you're still doing NaNoWriMo.
Best approach: don't take NaNoWriMo seriously at all, just use the 50k goal.

I'll no doubt fail to reach 50000 words, but that's not really my goal.
My real goal is to begin writing daily or every other day.

Oh you know, dealing with the curveballs life seems to love to throw at me. Heh.

Somebody sent me a PM and I was like, "Oh yea WF exists." Although to be honest I'd planned on returning as a troll.

    P.S. I'm at 4,095 words! =D

Yesterday's wrist accident lost me all of yesterday, and as I learned last year, losing a day loses you the whole thing.

So feh, to fuck with the 50K, that ain't gonna happen.

Last year on the first day I wrote my 2k for the day, when the computer logged me out and deleted it forever. I kept trying after that, but it was half-assed. Don't know what Kyle's excuse for quitting was though.

I've been doodling so far. Going to give it a real push starting tomorrow, then hope I will keep going.. gotta drag myself out of this slump.
I am quite confident I'll easily make the 50k mark.. but I want to reach it with good material to show for it as well.

You just need a good opener. Take one of these that I came up with but decided not to use...

    "Call me Ishmael."

"All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."

    "Rage!"

"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit."

"As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect."

"It was a pleasure to burn."

"Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loin."

    or, if all else fails,

"It was a dark and stormy night."

    Already got that part.

Even got ideas. Just don't wanna write 'em.

Feelin gloomy, and my stuff is never good when I force myself to write that way.

Do force yourself! But turn off the self-criticism. Just write. Fix it later, just get the ideas flowing. Don't worry if you wind up throwing a whole chapter or more away; it may lead you to where you need to be.

Whoa, I'm on a roll today. After almost giving up as it's the 5th already and I hadn't written a word, I wrote 5000 today and I'm aiming to go to bed when I have 7000. I dropped my initial plot idea and am writing one that plays in my very own scifi universe - I just know these characters and that makes it a lot easier.

To my surprise, it doesn't even suck. Not very much anyway ... but it's a far cry from what I can do when I take my time.

At 1100 so far...I have a feeling I'm going to come up well short of the 50,000.

However, I do kinda like what I've written so far.

Like last year, I'm not giving it nearly enough attention. Every time I sit down at the computer, the wife wants to talk to me . . .

Aiming for 10.000 today. The prologue is over, now the meat of the story begins. Should be easier now. Had to establish characters I know very well for the virtual 'readership', basically describing what I already know. Now I can get them to action!

    I signed up.

Everytime I sit at a computer Wordforge makes me post. :( ;)

Hell we've all written thousands if not hundreds of thousands of words posting here and elsewhere...

I have zero words right now. I guess I'm waiting until the last five days.

Oh yeah! 10k A DAY!!!

How do they know you've written all the words in one month? Couldn't you just copy and paste?

Even if you can't, couldn't you just re-type some story you had already written?

Sooo... 9 days to go after today (and today really is done, here). How's it going, everyone? I saw some people used their WF nicknames on NaNoWriMo, but nobody entered a wordcount or posted on the forums there. What's up?

My discipline has been horrible until a few days ago, I'd write a bit, two or 3 days in a row, and then would do nothing for a week. But my real goal for november is to get in a decent rhythm and then continue past november. I'm at 17k now, of which I wrote the last 7k in the last 3 days. I am slowly accelerating, spending more and more time on writing, which feels great, and I've finally decided on the shape of the story as well. Right now I start every evening around 8 or 9 and work till I go to bed, with some breaks. This week I've got 3 social events in the evenings though, so I hope I can switch my rhythm for those days to the mornings.. starting tomorrow, so it's time I went to bed.. 1.40 am here now.

I had a slight power interuption thanks to Wilma, been too lazy too actually write on paper, had my monitor die (this one really pissed me off), and will at this rate be closing in on zero words.

    *Siiiiiiiiiiiiiii-IIIIIGH!*

I just gotta face it's gonna suck no matter what and plow through I guess.

I mean, deep down, I know that even what I consider good for me sucks, but stuff I KNOW sucks takes the wind right out of me.

And this thing is just gonna suuuuck.

There's just no excitement or inspiration coming, and I despise writing down the horrible crap it takes to get there, and then having so much of it, I have to use it.

That's what I did last year, and look what I ended up with.
    A fucking nightmare.

Shit, I was gonna try for 20 pages a day for the last 10 days, but I slacked last night, and now I gotta do 40 today.

Fuck, last years blew goats, why should this be different?

I'll write the crap I guess.

Won't even share it this time.

    ....but then, what's the point?
    More shit to delete?

    Fuck.

    *Wishes for something to kick*

    3,229 words.

Meaning I blew it again this year.

Maybe I've lost the spark. What with being married now and the wife wanting to talk to me as soon as I sit down at the computer, and all the stuff we do on weekends, and getting ready for the honeymoon trip . . . I just don't feel the juice like I used to.

    17,000 words.

But stuff's come up. Don't think I'll get done. But it's a good chunk of a novel I didn't have before.
