I think I'm just going to go and not even care if I get the required length or not. I'm going to try to just put aside that inner editor and barf this stuff onto the page as quickly as I can. I have a skeleton of an idea that breaks down into chapters pretty easily, so I can even skip around to different parts of the story if I'm getting hung up.
I got to 876 words last night. "H" wanted help getting a large piece of furniture into her house and then we sat around chatting for a couple hours.
Too much real life going on, and I simply can't write in that manner. I'm always going back and editing my work, and I often write simply to get somewhere, and then see where that takes me. Guess I'm not disciplined enough for this type of writing, nor would I expect to be happy with the result. But hey, hat's off to those of you that throw your hat in the ring!
Ah, I've already fallen off the wagon. May try getting back on, but I'm now about 3200 words in the hole...
Yeah, me too. Between the girlfriend monopolizing my time all weekend and then the election and crap . . . I'm still hoping to at least get close.
I was doing the same thing with my post They could do a Trek based remake of TMFTT. Sub Janeway for Margaret Donner, Owen could be a weirdo Ferengi or Tellarite, and Larry would Owen's professor at UFP College. Momma would be, hmm, Tellarite probably works better here than Ferengi, unless you make Owen half Tellarite & half Ferengi. Who could play/fill in Momma's role? A Tellarite Momma probably works better here. Enought of my Trek/TMFTT "fan wanking" here.
5253 words. Not on pace. The calculation on the site says at this rate I'll hit 50k words by the middle of January. Hopefully I'll make some of this up this weekend. Crikey. By comparison, I'm 5633 words into House of Cats, my last try at NaNoWriMo, and 6664 words into Lord of Dragons, Lord of Storms, which was the one before that.
6205 words in, which is less than half of where I should be by now. "H" is monopolizing my free time (not that I'm complaining about that, mind you) but it's a bit disappointing. On the plus side, this is farther than I've ever gotten with one of these before, so there's that.
I think I'm officially out. In retrospect, I needed (1) more commitment to doing this and (2) better preparation.
7496 words in. Even if I don't finish by 30 November, by God this time I'm going all the way to 50k, or wherever I get done with the tale past there. This feels good.
