I've been working on an idea for a Star Trek series that begins aboard a Constitution class starship like the original Enterprise with the first season beginning in what would've been the fourth season of ST:OS.

I've been looking for a name. Can't use Enterprise, Exeter, Defiant, Constellation, Constitution, Lexington, Excalibur, Hood, and Potemkin.

I've been leaning toward Falcon (name of the Apollo 15 LEM IIRC), Pegasus, or Solaris.

    Any thoughts?

Pegasus has TNG connotations. Falcon has Star Wars connotations. Solaris sounds reasonably good, with the strong A in the middle, if the captain has proper enunciation.

"This is Captain Sassafras of the Starship U.S.S. Solaris. No, that's Solaris, not Olaris. No, it's Solaris. No . . ." :ramen:

I like your idea regarding the Appolo 15 lander (not the name, but the sentiment). Have you considered Eagle? Also, names from antiquity make for good Trek names. Argus, for example, or perhaps in a nod to Ulyses (and Arthur C. Clarke) you might go with Odyssey.

I seriously thought about Odyssey though given that is the name of a later Galaxy class ship I wished to avoid confusion.

Same way with Discovery as I have some fan fiction ideas that already revolve around a modified Galaxy class ship named Discovery.

The Royal Navy has always had cool names for their ships.

I don't think his concern is for Dayton so much as for the board.

Not everyone likes to insult and be insulted, in as vulgar a way as possible, as part of "debate". The Red Room being what it is, it is the fact that other rooms do not allow that kind of posting that makes Wordforge potentially interesting to those who aren't amused simply by childish flaming.

Your behaviour is a demonstration of thorough disregard for that principle. As long as you can get your thrills by insulting someone you don't like, you are totally unconcerned about what that does to the nature of the forums outside the Red Room, to the point of mocking those (Tamar in your flame and Bailey in this post) who are concerned about what Wordforge is. This is one more demonstration of why you would never be an appropriate owner for the board.

    Crying the same tears eh?

I find it equally amusing that in one thread you tell Nick not to take much notice of me last night for being drunk, yet in this thread you get all righteous over a post made at exactly the same time, just because it's the Green Room.

Dayton is a detestable individual whose foulness transcends the Red Room, as he has proven on many occasionas with his trolling of media central and his manipulation of the rules (and you can bet he reported the post above). If I have to risk a one off warning to get that across, then so be it. He is a man with a distinct history of trolling outside the Red Room and is nobody to claim moral superiority.

Oh, and I am neither seeking, nor presently desire, ownership of the board.

You do realize El Chup that this is a thread about suggesting a starship name (on a science fiction board).

I'm inclined to say that it isn't trolling by any stretch of the imagination.

Why not just relax and contribute?

I did, you just ignored it.

And please don't play the innocence bullshit. While this thread may be harmless enough, you know full well you've been trolling the shit out of media central for years.

    How about Persepolis?

It's what I call my primary ship in STO.

IIRC, "The Making of Star Trek" said that Yorktown was the originally conceived name while Star Trek was in pre-production and it was changed at some early point to Enterprise.

According to this source, here's the list:
(bolded the ones not yet used on screen related to TOS era AFAIK)

    1. Kongo - mentioned in "The Undiscovered Country"

    2. Exeter - "The Omega Glory"

    3. Enterprise - Duh.

    4 Yorktown - "Obsession"

    5. Valiant

    6. Hood - Mentioned in "The Ultimate Computer"

    7. Potemkin - Mentioned in "The Ultimate Computer"

8 Constellation - "Doomsday Machine" of course

    9. Farragut - Lt. Kirk served aboard her per"Obsession"

    10. Excalibur - Mentioned in "The Ultimate Computer" described as "severely damaged"

    11. Intrepid - "The Immunity Syndrome"

    12. Republic - Ensign Kirk server aboard per"Court Marshal"

    13. Constitution - not named in "Court martial but an on-screen list includes the registry number NCC-1700
which logically would be the first ship in the Constitution Class.

    14. Lexington - Mentioned in "The Ultimate Computer"

    Also mentioned in TOS era:

    Defiant - "The Tholian Web"

Evdevour - in "The Undiscovered Country"

Challenger - in "The Undiscovered Country"

    So....

    that leaves Valiant.

Also, while not on the list, I think Bonaventure and Actium would both be excellent choices.

All that said, there's no real reason why you couldn't use any of the original 14 except Enterprise, Intrepid, Constellation, and possibly Excalibur depending on how you want to deal with the events in "The Ultimate Computer"

(one alternative would be to assert that she was not crewed by her regular crew during that event for some reason- say a cadet training mission)

If i were writing a story set aboard that sort of ship, my choices would be, in order:

    Excalibur
    Bonaventure
    Valiant
    Endevour
Actium (props to Anc, I'd never thought of this before)

Other great names (from the Royal navy link):

    Invincible
    Majestic
    Eagle
    Triumph
    Courageous
    Vangaurd
    Renown

As an aside, the excellent names on that site kick the crap out of naming ships after presidents, or people in general for that matter.

Although i hate two-word names as a rule, they also have one called Iron Duke which is cool enough to make me overlook my bias lol
