Oh, and I only listed games with heavy RPG focus. If you want 'any' RPG elements there are many more.

Overlord, Ninety Nine Nights, FFXI, Dead Rising, Witchblade, Crackdown, Saints Row, Armored Core all have RPG elements in them.

What I've read says that Blue Dragon comes out on August 28th, 2007...

I'm assuming you mean Marvel Ultimate Alliance. This is also cross platform and available on last-gen consoles without really even any improvements for the new consoles (I've seen it played on both). Even so this game is just decent, and for it to be decent you've got to be playing multiplayer.

PSU and Enchanted Arms suck. Enchanted Arms doesn't just suck, it really sucks.

Blue Dragon is out in Japan, meaning it is released in a final form, just not in the US. Two Worlds is out in a little over 2 weeks.

Enchanted Arms is a basic, turn based RPG with some decent elements to it. I played it through, wasn't the best, but it serves as a fix.

The 360 at least, is also getting quite a lot of Real-Time-Strategy/Turn-Based-Strategy games as well, including a few developed just for consoles.

LotR:BME2, C&C3, Halo Wars, End War, Star Trek Legacy, Battlestations Midway, World in Conflict, Universe at War and quite a few others.

But, but... consoles only do Sports and Racing!

Gah, that's okay. Continue to believe what you like, I forgot what arguing with you is like. lol.

I didn't say they only do sports and racing.

I said that at the moment, the 360 and the PS3 have yet to be better than alternatives at anything BUT sports and racing.

    Big difference.

You are just trying to prove there are other game types out there. That's true. It's just that they don't compare with titles on other platforms. (or the same title is AVAILABLE on other platforms)

So I still stand by my statement that unless you are really into sports or racing titles, now is not the time to buy a 360 or PS3.

    Sales figures support my position.

    Thanks.

If it's any consolation, I think just about every RPG is crap, so in that way, to me, the PS3 and XBox are equal!

    Er...I disagree?

I love Gears of War. And Guitar Hero. And DOA 4. And Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.

Gears of War is really awesome at first. My roommate had it and we beat it on all the difficulties so yes I'd say that was a quality title. We got bored of it after that pretty quickly though. Personally I just enjoy PC shooters way more... no split screen, keyboard + mouse, more gametypes (customized servers etc).

Guitar Hero and Marvel: UA are both available on last gen consoles... and the graphics on 360 aren't much of an improvement as they are basically simple ports.

Haven't played DOA4. But you definitely have a point here, I did forget: these new platforms should dominate fighter games as well. I like these games but I generally rent them because I never had one hold my interest for very long (exception: Marvel vs Capcom series!).

Personally, my whole hangup is that I'm not generally down to buy a platform (especially such an expensive console) for a couple titles.

I'm not saying Xbox 360 or PS3 are doomed or that they have no purpose. Just saying I don't think it makes a lot of sense to buy them at this point... unless of course you are big fans of the genres I mentioned. I, personally, am not, especially since I prefered 2k sports series to Madden.

Gears of War doesn't have to be played splitscreen since it has LAN and internet play.

I'm not big fan of shooters on consoles but I played an evening of 2 on 2 matches with some guys at work a while ago and it was quite fun, the splitscreen actually being useful since it allowed your teammate to see what was going on with you as well.

I've also enjoyed GoW on multiplayer. I made a friend of mine scream when I jumped out at her with my chainsaw, heh.

I had Marvel: Ultimate Alliance on the reg. X-Box. However, Colossus and Moon Knight are both favorites of mine, so when I got the 360, I was happy to trade in my Xbox version for the 360 version. And the graphics are very nice if you have an HD tv

The graphics ARE a nice upgrade in Marvel if you have an HDTV. You can certainly see the difference.

That's the thing with the new consoles.. it almost makes no sense to own one without an HDTV, unless you're sporting a Wii. Still, with a Wii, I'd at least want Widescreen.

We do... actually it ALMOST looks worse IMO. Pretty much the same rendering but jaggier edges...

Depends... some games on wii are cropped on the sides when you play widescreen. Not only that all the virtual console titles are 4:3. Really progressive scan, non-HD is the sweet spot for wii IMO.

I disagree that it is pointless to own a 360 without an HDTV- though I may not be getting nearly as good of resolution as the rest of you, I can still revel in the graphics of the games as they look on my tube tv.

I'm hoping to eventually pick up a secondhand widescreen crt tv for that reason. While it's not great for hd media, for convential DVD's and standard definition consoles the quality is still better than with a HD lcd or plasma.

The only problem is finding room for one since they are heavy bastards.

Yes, okay, if you say so.

Yeah, thats what I thought too, until I bought and hooked it up to my new HDTV. Then I realized just how bad it looked before.

I've seen at least one of the games I'm playing on an HDTV, and while I realize there is a difference in quality I just don't really care. Can't afford an HDTV right now, had to hock about 30 PS2 games 7 DS games and my DS at gamestop to reduce my out of pocket price for the Elite down to a much more manageable $50. Perhaps I'll get one of those unknown brand LCDs at Wal Mart.

    Can't be that bad.

I got a 35-inch widescreen HD tv at Sears not too long ago for a piddling $700.

I'm sure it isn't, at my dad's they have an iLo brand 32" widescreeen HD LCD that they bought for about $600 and it works real well. I'll probably be going over his house later to show him some Dead Rising and The Darkness.

Hehe, don't... just play it on an SDTV until you have your own HDTV. ;)

You can get Oleiva 26" ws TVs for under $400. They're not the best for watching SD broadcasts, but they are great for gaming/PC/HDTV. Believe it or not, while they are a cheap panel, they've improved a lot over the years and are highly recommended as cheap versions to Sony/Samsung.

Oh yeah!! And if you get a TV from Wal-Mart DO NOT GET ILO!! Grab a Vizio. Vizio gets great reviews from AV Mags, etc and are usually about the same price, maybe a couple dollars more.

Target has some cheapies that are pretty nice... they've got a 32" magnavox atm that is on sale for like $568... you can get another 10% off if you get a target REDcard. They also have 3 different Olevias which aren't that bright, but otherwise are really solid panels for the price.

I work there so I'm waiting for a TV to hit clearance or a display model to go on sale. Then I'm gonna open a red card and buy it. Employee discount + redcard discount = 20% off. I'm hoping I can get a 32" or 37" for around 500.

Another cheap HDTV option is forget flat panel and look for a CRT. You can get those pretty cheap if you can find places that still sell CRT HDTVs.

Yeah, I saw a 30" flat tube widescreen toshiba at K-Mart yesterday for $360. Open box, but damn, that's a good price. Toshiba's crts are pretty decent too.

My kid has a 27" 4:3 Advent HDTV. It's actually a really nice TV. We picked it up for $299 almost 2 years ago for his birthday.

Sadly, I already know what Dead Rising is capable of, I want to weep playing it on my SDTV.
