I have failed as an instrument of chaos.

While at Target today, I discovered they had five unsold Wiis sitting on a shelf, and a housewife was trying to call friends to get them. A friend of mine was calling her mother to see about getting one as well.

I failed to grab sound-amplifying equipment, announce the Wiis' location to the full store, and watch the blood fly. I apologize.

I got my Wii on Friday. I knew a guy who worked at Fry's who told me when they would be coming in and I made sure I was there bright and early to get mine. Fuckers sold out in 5 minutes. I was one of the first people there and third in line. :)

I run into a Wii about once a month without trying, they're out there if someone is willing to actually put in some time looking.

Gotta wonder why there's often a shortage of new consoles, is it to justify the price? Create demand? Manufacturing issues? Something else?

Why is it so difficult to buy new gaming systems?

It isn't, the Wii is the only one with this problem this year.

I think it was nintendo creating demand. You couldnt get one in the UK for the last two months then all of a sudden the other week there was a huge shipment and they were available in all sorts of places for nearly a week.

Blockbusters had 2 in my area and there was a quite large line for it.

A combination of manufacturing difficulties and high demand.

Nah, Nintendo is actually making money on the Wii hardware and if they could have more out there they would.

I can't actually find the exact numbers now, but in its first year on the market the Wii has sold more than any other home console in history has sold in their first year on the market.

Nintendo is producing 1.8 million Wiis a month and they aren't keeping up with demand.

Had I the presence of mind and money, I'd have bought as many as I could and sold them at ridiculous prices on Ebay.

It's really not worth the time you would put into it. When they first came out it would have worked but now you'd only make like 100 bucks a pop. I'll make more by just going to work then I would spending all my time going around looking for more Wii's to sell and taking the time to ship them after each auction, not to mention the expense of the gas driving around everywhere looking for more Wii's.

Nintendo should build more manufacturing plants in 3rd world countries and force the native peoples into sweatshops!

    The Wii must flow.

You wouldn't have to force those people to take jobs that are better than their current ones or nothing at all.

Not worth the cost to build more plants... eventually the sales will fall off.

Rincewiend, that doesn't help explain the scarcity of the Nintendo Wii.

No, i was a bit suprised that in some parts of America it's still so rare to find in the stores a year after it's launch...

I live in California, and I've yet to see one last longer than five hours on the shelf.

Hell, the only reason I managed to get one for my brother last Sunday was because I work at Target, and was at the right place at the right time--one of my bosses happen to have the next week's ad for something else and the page happen to be open on that page.

Then, there was a long ass line, during which there were 25 people ahead of me hen I got there, and I was number 31 by the time the store opened.

The Wii suxxx! I barely ever play it. It needs more games for it, IMHO!

Something to this... I think it's a great console but if it was my ONLY source for games it'd be lacking.

It's about $100 over the cost in stores. Not a horrible deal, but not a great one. Don't listen to Scorp, the Wii is great, especially if you like sports games.

I split time on it and the PS3 pretty evenly. It definitely does not suck.

dunno, got home from pub and it had been delivered!

cost them £210,according to the receipt, plus they hand-delivered it just over 12 hours after it was paid for! :soma:

if all works, they are getting some bloody effusive feedback - thats what i call service.
