It's the day after the first day of Winter, and it is 46 and raining. Instead of a White Christmas, we're going to have a rainy Christmas. And the temperature isn't supposed to get below the freezing mark for a high once over the next ten days!

I can't remember the last time I had a white christmas. Must have been when I still lived in Cali.

    I miss snow! :weep:

The weather news has been quite grim, though things are looking up. I heard this morning they've revised the Xmas forecast to include a chance of snow in the afternoon. I've got my fingers crossed, big time. But, sad as this sorry state is, I have to remember that last year it snowed the day before Halloween.

We've had fog for the last three days, and it's bloody cold. The fog isn't as bad as the old pea-soupers, but it's bloody depressing. :(

Been a very uneventful winter here so far as well. Warm(for around here anyways) and dry. I want my snow damnit.

Edit : Funfact. January is the snowiest month in Connecticut, yet since 1980(when I was born), it has never snowed on my birthday. It's either been dry or rained.

Arizona has been several degrees below normal for at least the last week or so. We had a couple of inches of snow here in my part of Arizona on Tuesday. Some of it is still on the ground and we're due for some more tomorrow. I'll be visiting my folks in Illinois, so I'll avoid my snow only to get more there.

Yeah, that would be marathon-level stupidity. But that's not all I'm basing it on. I'm basing it on the fact that the last several winters have been warm, and the last major snowfall in excess of 10 inches occured over 5 years ago.

So now we're moving from 10 day forecasts to local phenomenon in the effort to conclude global warming?

Going with Nick's methodology, I conclude that the world is finally coming out of the ice age. We had a warm fall in Boston, and the past ten years have had much higher than average snowfall. I'm glad to know the ice caps are finally receding.

Didn't have the power knocked out due to the lack of landfalling hurricanes over the past year.

The problem is that to most Americans (and particularly conservative ones), the term global means "nationwide".

You should probably investigate the possible global consequences before making that statement.

Although I guess aslong as the results for your little plot of land strike you as positive (if you can think that hard), then all's fine and dandy :techman:

It's a huge danger, potentially an even bigger threat to mankind and global ecosystems than Republican caused global warming. I blame Bush. We all need to commit to reversing the drifting immediately.

fortunately, you cannot look at local phenomenon and conclude that it is occurring on a global scale.

however, ever since we've been keeping records, 12 of the 20 hottest years on record have occurred since 1990... and 2006 seems to be another one for the record books. 3 days before Christmas in NYC and it's 60°F.

Publishers are rewriting the science books as we speak. Atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have been at about 0.03% for the last century or so and now it is up to 0.04%. While it is true that it has fluctuated over the last million years or so, it has never been this high and never has it risen so sharply.

Global Warming is real and we are contributing to it... significantly.

That's right. I'm just another dumb 'Murican for being sceptical of this climate change phenomenon being catastrophic due to scientists' lack of accurately measuring billions of cubic meters of air, moisture, ocean currents, solar events, vulcan activity, and cow farts.

I guess I better sit up and fly right by letting the 10 o'clock news hacks tell me what's what. :techman:
