In sure ConForge will spin this as meaning nothing and that McCain still stands a chance... :?:

While this makes me happy, I'm shocked that publishing those results is legal. I mean, heck, we can't even publish polls here a week before the election and we - as the media - are hit by very expensive fines if we let out election results before 5pm on election Sunday... and I quite agree with those measures!

Wow, 7,012 posts in little over a year? Great team effort! As for this particular post? It's a big ole who gives a shit. The elections are just around the corner and that's the only poll that sorta matters.

Too late to pretend to be politically reasonable now, that ship has long since sailed.

I see the logic. If the media jumped the gun and said "all hope is lost for Cantidate X" and people believed it and never bothered to vote, it could affect the election. :(

Well, in contrast to some I differ between procedure and result.

Btw, there's much better targets than me on this board when you're on the warpath against political insanity ;)

It could also serve as a wake up signal. In any way, it's very, very bad form.

Remember Kerry, and Gore before him, led in the polls right up to voting day.

I think the OP is somewhat questionable. A very large portion of absantee voters are the military....the vast majority of them are not voting for Obama.

Here is this article about overseas military voting. What they didn't mention is another link in the chain - you have to go through your own unit "Voting NCO". That means someone The Army picked to go to a class, who probably doesn't even give a shit. If they drop the ball anywhere, too bad....you don't vote.

Also, with all the blacks in The Army I cannot figure out why the vote would turn out overwhelmingly Republican.

There aren't actual early polling results AFAIK, just exit polling of early polling.

People who indulge in exit polling should be shot.

Plus it tends to be even less accurate than traditional polling. Seems people enjoy lying to pollsters about who they just voted for.

I'm not really shocked, but I do find it profoundly wrong.

In the States, I am not even sure about the practice of eastern states being able to announce results, just because their polls have closed, while western states are still voting. I remember 1980, when Jimmy Carter conceeded the election before polls closed in California. Apparently, a lot of people in California gave up and left the lines at the polling places due to that, which can have an effect on other issues and positions on the ballot. For the same reason, I don't like "exit polls" being able to be announced before the polling booths close. While people are voting is no time to be telling them how the results are going so far.

Just like ABC calling Florida for algore when voting wasn't over because Florida is in two time zones.

Actually, the inaccuracies have largely stemmed from the failure to exit poll early and absentee voters, who simply tend not to be demographically similar to the electorate at large.

You do realize that a casual visior to WF would get the impression that the majority here ARE McCain supporters just from the first page thread titles. Hell, I've been lurking around here for years, and even I am beginning to find the "we hate McCain too" spiel a bit unbelievable.

    This is BULLSHIT.

It's bad enough that 'early voting' starts a fucking MONTH before the election, but now they're releasing results?

Absolutely fucking blows my mind. This shit is suspicious as hell.

And I find Bryce's latent racism most disturbing too. I mean he used the word swing, which makes you think of swinging by their necks, which makes you think of lynching. And we know who likes lynchings.

It's worse than that. He also refers to "ConForge." "Con" is a swear word in French that refers to female genitals. By using it as a derogatory term, he is showing his disgust towards women, and thus degrading them. That cleary shows that he is sexist, as well.

You can't tell me that these veiled references are just coincidences, now, can you? :soma:

Yes. Very much so, in its fundamental meaning. As an insult, sure, it's used for everyone. Too get the English equivalent, just add a final "t" and change the vowel a bit. (You'll notice that word is also used for men, and also as an insult, even though it's fundamental meaning is very gender-specific.) The word in French is quite mild, as opposed to the English word, which is exceptionally vulgar. But only the "strength" of the word varies; the meaning, both the "official" meaning and the "insulting" meaning, is almost identical.

It's just terrible that he would use a word like that, isn't it? The fact that no one else has brought it up shows there must be a cover-up going on. We should appoint Kyle to investigate con-gate right now...

He will be and it will be. Centuries from now, historians describing the fall of America will look back on 2009 to 2012 much the way Roman historians look at the reign of Commodus. These four years will be referred to as "the abominable Obama aberration." :(

Indeed! Note the way Obama partisans are actively questioning the definition of the word!
