Wonder if this takes into account the weekly Wednesday cocktail parties...

First of all, let me just say, it's not right to be having government parties in the midst of US armed conflicts abroad. It's just disrespectful in some way. We've got brave men and women dying for...(well I don't really know anymore) and their leaders are having cocktails, caviar, and twinkies. That went for Dubya too. Not to mention the government is FUCKING FLAT BROKE. The state lives on nothing but a Chinese line of credit. And when Michelle Obama can show up to a state party honoring the President of India in one of the most expensive dresses ever made, she's got no business running commercials looking like a common woman asking "ME" to donate to the poor poor Haitians. Hey Michelle, why don't you downsize your elaborate spending and give it to Haiti? It'll go alot further than the $20 bucks I donated today. Or better yet, auction that damned ugly dress (and I'm sorry but in my capacity as a gay metrosexual- it WAS ugly) at Christie's.

Yes, WF, below my charcoal hardened layer of heart, there is a "little glimmer" of ruby red. I even give to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Now contrast this with Hillary, and her recent trip to Haiti:

You know, so far I think Hillary is the only one that came on board with Obama last year that has consistently shown, hell, reminded the government of "class." Much better than Pelosi who has done nothing but show America a proverbial J.A.P. who seems to think she comes second after God. I can't wait to see that cunt's botoxed face (which we're somehow paying for via a backdoor of some kind) TRY and force an emotion when the pugs take back the House in the midterms and she loses that big chair and office.

Wonder why Obama didn't go down there and see things for himself instead of sending Hillary. Oh, thats right he would have missed the photo op of serving food at the homeless shelter on MLK day.

Maybe Hilary is finally growing up.

I personally saw and heard her act like an elitist snob when she was First Lady and visiting my town...if the reports over the last year have been accurate maybe she has changed somewhat from the petulant and entitled brat she used to act like in the 90's.

That's why Obama would have been getting Bill coffee back then.

Come to think of it, I wish he'd get Bill some coffee right now.

I think she and her attitude are the reason that Clinton never got any health care reform back in the 90s. For some reason she thought that because she was the wife of the president, she could start meddling in government. Lots of people resented the hell out of that arrogance.

I agree in the 90s, her behavior seemed to carry almost Nixon-like snobbery. I think these Senate years and having to kowtow to foreign leaders has somewhat humbled her. Don't misunderstand. I still wouldn't be shocked if she challenged Obama in 2012 for the nomination, or is just patiently waiting in the wings until 2016. *I've noted that ever since she took the office of Sec. of State, she's been putting together one hell of nice looking portfolio for herself- much better than any of the other idiots she has to work with. Hillary is kind of like a pit viper in a human body. Dangerous, contemplative, but knows EXACTLY what she's doing... There's a reason she's given herself a politico extravaganza tranquilizer. She's showing Democrats and Independents everything she IS and Obama ISN'T. -This time with more than simply words.

    This.

This will prove to be an adventageous move on her part, it shows sense first off, second it makes good press with conservatives, and third if it was indeed a calculated political move instead of an actual act of common sense approach to the situation I have to say to the perp well played.

I have been known to nitpick her for some of the shit she's done and put up with from Bill, but she may have finally come into her own in some respects.

Never let it be said I don't give credit where due.

I have no idea how it would have been different if she had made the big chair and if one considers where we sit today with the uproar and all but if there's someone with their hands on the wheel I wonder if they may steer her in the direction of making a go of it again in 12 if the house and senate are decimated this year as is suspected.

Oh my! The administration in power regularly schedules diplomatic and political events to occur at the White House! Next you'll be complaining that half the bills passed this Congress are about renaming some post office.

Seriously, Eminence: stop trying to reenact 2 girls, 1 cup as a one man play. And any of you righties playing along with Eminence's coprophilia really should just stop it already.

170 parties in less than a year is closer to one party every two days, not one in three.

I'd be interested to see the figures for the same period in Bush's and Clinton's tenures.

It might have something to do with the shitton of planes your president needs to use for all the SS.

Could just be common sense not to tie up the one runway when all the space is needed for the aid flights.

Well the one "YESTERDAY" is a surprise party for his wife. But it wasn't a state function. You can bet we footed the bill though, and you can also bet their meals weren't cheap.

Undoubtedly run-of-the-mill diplomatic, political, and charitable events called parties by morons with nothing better to do with their empty, meaningless lives. Not a decent orgy amongst 'em all. Too bad they weren't burn-a-PUMA-troll-at-the-stake parties. Those are a lot of fun.

I find it hilarious that Liet can't even post three sentences without contradicting himself. After all, notice how, when trying to argue for the "oh this is commonplace" aspect of it all, he invokes the mundane clockwork of some Congressional responsibilities.

And yet I wonder.....if it is in fact on the same level as mundane Congressional bills, then why should the mundane merit a party?

You're right, it is closer to one every two days.

And I had the same question re: Bush/Clinton. But I didn't find any specific numbers, so hard to compare.

One thing I should point out though is that the role of the Social Secretary, at least from what I've observed, has been one associated traditionally with planning social activities for the first lady. Sure there is some overlap with State Dinners (and coordinating with the Chief of Protocol on State Visits), but responsibilities also include planning simple things like a tea for the First Lady. I also remember reading a while back that the WH was hosting concerts every Wednesday, complete with well-known musicians, food, drinks, the whole nine yards. Don't know if they are doing that still, but thought that was curious at the time as well.

One wonders what Michelle has been up to also, to let this go unnoticed. I haven't seen her doing much of anything actually -- I mean just look at her vegetable garden show. And I know she has the girls to look after, but come on, they are in school 8 hours a day.

Personally, I liked the old, scrappy Michelle better (which is who she actually is)....and this new Stepford wife Michelle makes no sense to me.

No list, AFAIK. To be fair though, these numbers should be taken in the context that they come from the social secretary herself amidst the White House party crasher ruckus. Maybe she counted every little thing in an effort to try and show how busy she had been working.

It's not easy being the first lady, that's why she has 26 assistants. More than any other first lady in history, I guess that's Historic too!

Hillary did a lot of issue-based (as opposed to) social events when she was First Lady (compared to other First Ladies before her). I'm sure the current WH is continuing the same tradition here. It would also be nice if the Obama Administration used technology such as webcams to give Americans a behind the scenes look/as a way to engage everyday Americans. Make full use of technology, like the Obamas did during the campaign, and let Americans see the business of the White House through such events.

Well, this is way back to March 2:

    I have to laugh.

They talk about these parties as a sign of how open the WH is to the people and then they go on to detail all these get togethers which are nothing but politicians and their families and friends that reek of bribery for concessions.

Very much so. I, personally, don't think there is any use in Obama going down there. What could he accomplish (besides a photo-op) by being there in person that would justify all the expense of a presidential trip? And then there's the disruption of all the relief effort because of the resources needed to receive him and guarantee his security. Would his presence accomplish more than it would hinder? I don't believe so. I would rather he just stay in Washington.

    Fucking amazing.

You know how I know Bush didn't have 170 parties in one year? Because the media, the left, and cunts like Liet would have been screaming from the rooftops about it.

The same way they were screaming from the rooftops about Bush playing too much Golf during a WAR, yet now ignoring the fact that Obama has played more rounds of Golf during a WAR in one year then Bush did in almost three years!

Mind you, I'm no fan of President Obama or Secretary Clinton, but situations like this are pretty much the whole reason the State Department and Secretary of State exists.
