I was cleaning up my yard today and found...bear poo!! In our front yard. Right beside the house.

Was kind of expecting that since the bears have been out and about in force lately and knew that there was a family of them within a half mile of the house but still...EEEEKKKKK!! No wonder the dog has been acting so strange lately.

Then my Dad says to check to make sure that it doesn't hibernate in under the trailer.....

I didn't even know that was a possibility. Why oh why do people tell me things like that. Now I'll be worrying about it all the time...

and the dog is probably acting strange because we just adopted an 8 year old Bichon from the SPCA and it figures its bear food.

although he did try to take on the buffalo when they got loose and got a liiiittttlllle too close to his buddy (aka my 3 year old). Hysterical a 20 lb ball of fluff dog telling off a 2000 lb bull buffalo

They are so sweet together. Our son has been missing our American Bulldog that died last year and this dog is just perfect for us. An angel in disguise - someone decided that they just 'didn't want a dog' just hours before we walked in!

    Fate.

Wow...I just noticed...I knew a dude name Israel "Izzy" Torres quite a few years ago.

Anywho - buffalo, bears...where do you live? But I wouldn't worry - bears most likely won't come around during the day so you won't encounter them. Having said that.....I have encountered them in daylight!

But generally, you don't have to worry.

I was on the ladder painting the side of the house one day a few years ago when the lady across the street yelled, to the neighborhood in general, "Everybody watch your kids, a bear just walked thru my yard!"

She'd been gardening, and she stood up and turned around, and there it was. The bear cocked an eye at her, she cocked an eye at the bear, and there they stood, cockeyed! It decided to keep meandering.

I stayed up on the ladder for a while.

My husband was just stalked by a boar and a sow last week while he was hunting and it was definitely daytime :)

They'll sit in the fields and eat the canola and oats like candy while people are combining (not combing) around them - lol

We live way up north in Alberta and my landlords keep buffalo. I like buffalo. They're...different...

A couple years ago, a similar incident convinced me to start taking a sidearm with me when hunting.

It was long before daylight and I was crossing along the top of a ridge. Down in the gully I could hear a pack of hogs kickin' up a stir and it was so dark, if they'd decided to get on me I wouldn't have been able to get my rifle up. I crossed quietly and got up in my stand ASAP until the sun came up.

So my husband got a bear licence to go with his elk licence since he's seen lots of bear and no elk and now one less bear terrorizing the village so to speak.

Up until 2 am helping him deal with it and now I have a 8 foot bear soon to be rug in my freezer, 160 lbs of bear meat on the way from the butcher and am making shrimp scampi and apple pies to clear out some freezer space *lol*

We had no idea how to do it for a bear rug but thanks to the internet...we now do :D

The coyotes around my folks place have been really bold lately, last fall they were in the barn, and this summer they were in the yard. :-s

What part of Wisconsin you from? I had a lot of coyotes when I lived there too. Also a few wolves the DNR were trying to help protect.

I did have to download off the internet how to skin it and prepare it for making a rug :) we haven't done that before.

Luckily I'm very very versatile ;)

we were out in the field taking pictures of it with my husband and my 3 year old goes - oh look Mom there's another bear! I said don't be silly, but there was! A quarter mile down the road. Just sitting there watching us.

(edited to say - lots and lots and lots of coyotes here too)

    Canola and oats.

Since there is just our dog out here there is nothing else besides coyotes around and they don't eat those :)

(and the tracks, and the claws marks on the tree...and well...seeing it helped too *lol* hard to miss an 8 foot 800 lb black bear :))

*sigh* the things I've learned since moving out to the boondocks.
