My take on Chuck Norris vs. Steven Seagal (from the Green Room thread).

Not the highest art ever, but not bad for an hour with Photoshop...

Your photoshop skillz are improving, from what I see. The thing is, just about ALL comic book artists now use a tablet. They are not that expensive any more, from what I hear.

Actually, Christmas could still be celebrated. It would be Easter that would be cancelled.

Haha, I love this because it looks like the art you'd find in an airplane safety pamphlet. This is the consequence for those who refuse to keep their tray tables in their upright and locked positions.

I'm starting to get the hang of inking in Photoshop. It's a bit of work, but it's worth it. My images are looking better each time.

This is one I made in response to the "Black Spider-Man?" thread in MC; it's "Black Superman!"

Tonight's attempt at a lifelike portrait...

(By the way, in the image I used as a source, it is apparent that there is a little glob of glue that holds Superman's spit curl in place.)

    Tonight's exercise...

Captain Kirk slightly re-imagined. I was trying out a new method of coloring; I don't really have the hang of it yet. The pose is also awkward and I got the flesh tones way too dark. Ah, well...

That could be Kirk at the end of the first 5-year mission, before he got a perm and started wearing the gray/white pajamas.

That costume doesn't look very reliable around the "sensitive" regions...

I remember one of the costume designers from Star Trek (TOS) saying that sexiness in women's clothing wasn't so much a matter of how much skin was uncovered, but in how likely the covering looked about to fall off.

Yeah, the "panels" above the boots on the outside of the thighs look pretty awkward.

Better to ditch them and go with bikini bottoms.

    Sexier.

Okay, a quick alternate take with the "less is more" (where it comes to covering) philosophy...

I think the bare belly is what's wrong. Looks too coochi-mama, not heroic.

The evolution of ideas for the cover of Harry Hembock #4...

In the climax of Diacanu's Harry Hembock: Dark Designs, the three heroes (Harry, Timmy, and Bozo) confront the evil overlord Abmuloc, who has taken on a phoenix-like fiery bird form. I wanted the cover to capture the drama and excitement of that showdown.

Idea #1 is called the Last Stand. This is a (roughly) Abmuloc-eye view of our three heroes blasting straight into the viewpoint. I liked it; it screamed heroism...but it didn't really show Abmuloc (beyond the talons reaching into frame).

Idea #2 is called the Fall. This was, perhaps, TOO dramatic. Timmy and Bozo are held in Abmuloc's talons high above while Harry falls straight into camera. I liked it for getting Harry right up close to the viewer, but (1) it doesn't really reflect what happens in the story and (2) it's a little unclear, but I believe Harry can fly (with some tech he has built into his uniform).

Idea #3 is called Clutches and it was getting close. It has Harry and Abmuloc (who are the main combatants) front and center, with Timmy and Bozo in the background. I liked the concept, but not the relative positions, sizes, etc.

Idea #4 is a refinement called Clutches2 and this was what I ultimately went with. Harry is in Abmuloc's clutches again (and Abmuloc looks more eagle- rather than chicken-like) and we have a high perspective for added drama. Timmy and Bozo strike action poses in the background (note that the perspective for them is off because I was experimenting with different viewpoints).

The fifth picture is pretty much the final cover image. It puts Bozo in his right costume (when I started, Diacanu hadn't yet published the part of the story where Bozo puts on a costume, so I didn't know what it looked like) and give a fiery look to Abmuloc. I wasn't wholly happy with how Abmuloc turned out, but he does at least seem fiery. I also added the detail of Dr. Donner in the logo area.

I'm doing a set of character profiles for D's website...these are based on the "Who's Who in the DC Universe" series from quite a few years back. The first one is, naturally, Harry Hembock...

Another character profile for Diacanu's Harryverse...this one is mega-villain Deathgrasp and the entity he is eventually subsumed into, the Scourge...
