Quite right. Batman should look more like an NFL linebacker than a body builder. But well-defined muscles are a visual shorthand indicating power to the audience.
because bouncers need to be big/strong enough to intimidate and manhandle people with a quickness. In other words most are heavyweight guys, and if they do their jobs right, their encounters are over rather quickly. They don't need to focus on conditioning, endurance and a deep gas tank (which would bring the abs or at least the absence of fat) which a superhero getting into epic chases & battles would need.
All of which are hidden under the Bat Suit. Except for Affelck's version. Affleck needed the muscles Does Batman need to be strong? Hell yeah. However does the actor who plays the character have to look like Chris Hemsworth had to look like to play Thor? No. Unless the script calls for Batman to be physically exposed as Bruce Wayne why is there a need for the actor to obtain the level of physical looks that someone like Hemsworth has to obtain to play Thor? Yes the actor should be in decent shape. Obviously we don't want an actor whose fat to play the character because it won't work but Pattinson from what I've seen is in decent enough shape. The audience doesn't need Batman to look jacked. He's freaking Batman. He doesn't need to beat you with his fists. He just needs your secret code.
I think the physique is part of the character. You see Bruce's dedication by how much goes into the physique. Yes, you can put a guy with a good level of fitness in a suit with rubber muscles and that can kinda work for Batman--they made Tom Hardy look 7 feet tall and 300 pounds of muscle in The Dark Knight Rising--but you've got to believe him as Bruce Wayne.

Pattison's not in bad shape, just not overly bulky. I could buy him as Terry McGinnis Batman Beyond or Nightwing. Bats is also meant to be a skilled acrobat and martial artist, not just a chunk of muscle.
Yeah but Buffy explicitly has super-strength and reflexes. Bats doesn't. Hence the comments above that Superman could look scrawny. But again, Pattison is in much better shape than a lot of guys and could fit for a more martial artist version of Bats.
when you do quotes you have the entire quote/thread history and sometimes I only want a segment. I wrote down how to do quotes but I can't remember what I did with the directions. Understanding something and remembering something are two different things in my caveman brain. Not a big deal, I'll just refer in general to what somebody said - that keeps things simple and painless. Problem solved!
You can edit out stuff you don't want to keep. Also, when you use quotes, the person/people you quote get notified, so they're more likely to respond to you. Spend some time learning to do it. Everyone else here does it. It isn't hard.
Paladin just mentioned quoting. The way my brain is wired it is hard for me - that's just the way it is. I would need somebody face-to-face in person sitting right next to me showing me show. And I would have to write down the steps and do it over, and over and over. I'm on a legit VA disability for short term memory loss and learning disability (among other mental/psychological conditions). Bickenden mentioned doing it on a phone. Are you kidding me? I'll never get a smartphone because I would be in the store every day getting help figuring shit out! Bottom line if I'm upsetting the apple cart with quoting, I just won't do it.
Here's a crazy idea: Get someone here (there'll be plenty of volunteers from both sides; you don't need to risk getting cooties from the libruls) to send you a step-by-step. Print those steps. Put them next to your computer and follow them every time you want to quote someone. Hell, I'm busy right now, but PM me tomorrow and I'll do it for you, Evul Librul though I am. Unless you tell me you don't know how to print from here, in which case Dammit, man, even Dayton figured it out after a decade or so...
Unless Tom was drug tested and I saw the results I do not know for certain. In Dark Knight his muscles definitely did not match his frame size that's for sure. If the claim of gaining 28 pounds of pure muscle without juicing in a few weeks is true then Tom would be the only person on earth to do that. Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck etc. is not always true, but quite often it is. https://steroidly.com/tom-hardy-steroids/ https://nattyornot.com/can-big-tom-hardy-without-steroids/ https://www.naturalhealthyliving.net/tom-hardy-bane-workout-dark-knight-rises/ https://www.skinny2fit.com/does-tom-hardy-use-steroids/
yes I would like to talk about Alicia Silverstone's nipples, especially if anyone has any visual aids!
