Microsoft always being last with their console always means there console will be better too. They did that with Apple in the OS wars and won brutally. XBOX has a better video card then the ps3 and cpu too.
^Wasn't that the whole point of the PS3? That it was not just a gaming console but an entertainment console?
Some games are starting to include this feature and it's very nice. In Just Cause 2 you can either start a recording or set it to keep the last 30 seconds in its memory and then either save it to your console or upload it to Youtube.
Yes it was, and to a great extent, this true... and that goes for the Xbox 360 as well. What I'd like to see in the next gen, however, is a side by side comparison if my "game console," which is broadband connected and has 2-4 processors compete and win against my cable set top box. I want a DVR like Bick mentioned, Premium channel access either on Demand or by subscription, Netflix and Hulu as well as mastabation inducing graphics and kick ass game play that includes motion control and everything else that this gen can do. On that note and after a quick Google search, this is why I think the On Live service will appeal to certain segment of the gaming community, but ultimately will be DOA when put up against the consoles of tomorrow. Also, the $60/game model has to go.
I want a console that plays games. Fuck extra shit, that's why I have a TV/PC/DVD player/whatever else they slap on to sell a few more units.
Not me. I'd like an ultimate entertainment device. I'm tired if paying 3-5 different corporations for my entertainment.
Sony has stated that they will not out the same level of R&D into the PS4 that they did into the PS3. Simply put, they can't take another failure. Its a good platform, but it didn't sell like it needed to. On the other end, I expect Microsoft to deliver a fantastic console.
There's a reason I don't use PCs for gaming - the keyboard interface. I can guarantee that if a console used a keyboard interface I would not even consider buying it.
Another failure? ... and I take it the Xbox 360 was a huge success? dude... There are more than 50 million PS3's in homes worldwide... Compared to the 54 million Xbox 360's. When you consider that the PS3 has always been at least $100 more expensive than the 360, and still is to this day, I don't think Sony would consider it a failure at all. If Sony decided to match the price point of the 360, you'd see it overtake the 360 worldwide within a year. www.vgchartz.com With that said, Sony should take a page from the Microsoft playbook... make a cheap entry level PS4 with 4-8 GB of flash memory and offer it cheap, and with the same ease of effort it takes to drop in a 1 TB SATA drive into the PS3, users can upgrade their own systems as they see fit. They also should do more to emphasize the social nature of gaming today. A lot of people wanted PS3's but opted 360 because all of their friends played COD on the 360 and they wanted to play with them. The PSN being free is great and I think the 360 will go that route one day with XBL, but obviously, Sony needs to do more. I think that when it comes to the console generations, it might be a case where Sony and Microsoft mimic the iPhone. One year they release a dramtic update in design, the next year it's just a faster processor, a more powerful camera and more memory. The PS4 and 720 may only be more memory and faster GPU. There really hasn't been much more innovation than that since the PS3 and 360.
CPU's havent been made much faster cause of the heating issue which is why there is much more push on video card development when it comes to gaming.
It looks like my vision is closer to reality than I thought! Ant thing that takes my cable provider down a peg or two is alright with me!
So you pay for XBox Live and then Xbox Live TV on top of that? It would be cool, but I hope they don't go the hulu way of only keeping the episodes on the site for 3 weeks and then gone forever. I mean listen Hulu, if I suddenly feel the need to watch the pilot for Community I'm willing to sit through your commercials and click on your links, but if your going to remove the episodes you're forcing me to seek alternative means. It's not like I'm going to run out and buy the DVD boxset because I want to see 1 episode.
I don't know anything other than the information in the link I shared at this point. My guess would be that MSFT wouldn't bother unless they could do it at competitive to substantially better prices than cable operators or else they wouldn't bother with it being a new model and all. We'll know more after Xbox's press conference on Monday.
