I was on the side of the police about the shooting not being entirely racist and a problem until I saw the police shouting at the black people around that blue lives matter when they were sitting around laughing about the black girl getting shot and how awesome it was. I can agree that the shooting itself was ok vs a violent knife weilding person who was killing black lives that mattered. However, to stand around being grumpy because the black people were not cheering them on and insulting them with racist attacks over how police should always shoot the black person is a definite OF move.

Socialism would be a much better way to fight racism. By creating a social bottom to start from that puts all people in a place where they can survive, communicate, and live even if they are destroyed you take a huge weapon away from the racists. The racists want to destroy the lives and quality of life of the people they hate. If you cannot take their homes, food, medicine, clothing, work, family, and basic life enjoyments away from them, then the racists and bigots cannot do their worst.

Capitalism allows for a person to be destroyed and lose everything and end up in the gutter. It allows for the destruction of family wealth that would be a safety net for communities of color. This is what it has done in america since it was america.

I could make a long list of ways our present capitalist welfare system seeks to destroy families rather than strengthen them. Coupled with the capitalistic medical care system we really have an instance where being in the whiter area of employment becomes necessary to have kids and raise them in a way that allows them to grow out of poverty and into the middle class. It is based on credit scores, loans, and the ability to pay the family tax known as medical insurance and tuition.

Back in the very early days of my career, I had the misfortune of working at investment bank. We always had to have our paperwork in to the pension department by noon. I had initially figured it had to do with some kind of market or regulatory deadline, until late one afternoon I actually walked up to the pension department and found the team completely passed out at their desks.

Apparently the entire group was notorious for liquid lunches. Hence the deadline.

So yeah... I always laugh when I hear about lazy teenagers or lazy shift workers.

Well, that's definitely not true in my case. I get shit from all sides. Somebody always needs to dump on somebody, shit rolls downhill, etc.

My wife was in the restaurant industry for over ten years, and she got an hour for lunch and 2 15 minute breaks every 8 hours just like everybody else. She also got employee discounts. Additionally, they were usually only busy during lunch and dinner hours, so the rest of the time they could fuck off all they wanted as long as their tables were done. This was during the 90's so things might have changed since then.

Really depends upon the place. I’ve known people who’ve done that work and have had it much worse.

This was mostly Applebee's. I miss the tips she used to bring home. Between $100 and $300 a day. We make over 4x the amount we did back then, but there was something about having a big bowl of cash sitting on the counter.

working construction wasn't the worst job I ever had, but pretty close: two fifteen minute breaks a day, and one of those breaks was considered your lunch.
