I didn’t watch it either, only listened (so there could be a Nixon/Kennedy thing going on) but I found it a very well written speech. Well delivered as well. He stumbled over words... half a dozen times? but corrected himself. It was nothing like the rambling egotistical incoherence of the Republicans’ president.

I'm sure it will be several sources from TV, the internet and the radio. And I'm sure your sources will be more honest than trustworthy than mine even if god himself brings me up to speed.

Well don't get too used to it - Kamala might have a completely different style when she takes over.

Ya know... You could skip getting your opinion on the speech handed to you and just... listen to the speech.

    Crazy I know!

I'd rather watch/listen to paint dry. Damn it's painful to listen to him. Small doses I can handle, but after a couple of minutes it's like fingernails on a blackboard.

Not saying he'd make a good president, but I'd listen to James Carville - that motherfucker BRINGS IT when he talks.

I won't lie, I sometimes forget Biden is president because there isn't news about his feuds or bloated who or other general insanity I once naively thought was reserved for "third world shitholes."

It's nice to set 'im and forget 'im.

I also like how the soaps won't be pre-empted twice a week anymore, not that B&B has been worth watching since 2009 at the latest. But if anyone still has a granny who watches "the stories" there ya go

Tell the class the one thing you hate about him the most. With specifics. "He's not Trump" - without explanation - is not acceptable. Or just blow the question off with some smirky, stupid-ass comment, which seems to be all you're capable of anymore. :bailey:

    Then read the transcript.

I know, not enough der fuhrer mixed in for you, and no epic gaffes like the patriots defending the airports in 1776, but you might learn some... Oh, wait, forgot who I was addressing.

Y'all are aware of my 2019 critique of Biden, and my 2020 revision based on the opportunities presented by last years events (mostly "he SAYS he recognizes the moment, but what will he DO")

One of Warren's key principles is "Personnel is policy" - in that vein he has been an almost unmitigated success. None of that Larry Summer, Rahm Emanuel trash, a ton of people that flowed right out of the Warren universe into the Administration (along with some Sanders folks and other progressives).

This, in my view, lies directly foundational to the initial policy success. Along with the solidarity of Progressives in Congress. It is WILDLY unusual for a president to lay down an opening bid and get basically that exact proposal passed while negotiating away virtually none of it (the MW doesn't count since that wasn't a result of negotiations).

That speaks to the quality of the proposal and the skill of those who fought for it.

It will only get harder from here but the political world is abuzz with that which I think is going to be THE fundamental decision of this era:

The ARPA is a fundamental rejection of Reaganism (of which Trump was the nadir) and a revival of the New Deal mentality. The question is, is Reaganism ACTUALLY in retreat (it certainly seems to be because there's nothing other than scattershot tweets appearing in it's defense) and the ascendancy of New Deal 2.0? Has the political universe been revised again as it was 40 years ago? Or is this an illusion born of the crisis and the dragon is not in fact dead?

It's not an overstatement to suggest that this - along with the battle over expanding/restricting voting rights. will define the future of the nation for decades to come - or even if it has one.

I certainly hope so. The thing that excited me the most about Elizabeth Warren was feeling that she was that rare candidate who might have both the skill and the will, as it were, to rewrite the assumptions underlying our politics in the same way that both FDR and Reagan did. (For decades after FDR, even Republicans conceded that it was good for the government to help people; for decades after Reagan, even Democrats were cowed into saying things like "the era of big government is over" and giving in to many of Reaganism's bullshit premises.)

I still worry that Biden's obvious nostalgia for a "kinder, gentler" brand of politics could lead him to be Charlie Brown to Mitch McConnell's Lucy, with bipartisan cooperation as the football. But it's promising so far. We'll have to see what happens when it comes to pushing a minimum wage bill through as a standalone measure, as well as things like the tax code.

    This looks good too:

I wonder if Joe Biden, whose purpose in the Obama campaign was to be the safe, nonthreatening older white guy who made Obama less scary to timid suburbanites, will also turn out to be the guy who can make overturning Reaganomics finally feasible, simply because nobody with a functioning brain will buy him as a raging socialist.

I'd laugh my ass off at the irony, but if he somehow manages that I'll be here for it. No one under 30 buys that crap when they saw their futures evaporate before they'd left high school as a result of those politics.

Prediction: The MS increase will pass the same way it did in 2007 - by being welded into a must-pass DAA.

This is because even when he was doing his main job of golfing and eating hamburders he sucked at it. If the guy spent half the effort he did on misspelling tweets he could have fucked up so much more often. Instead we paid his security a lot of money to look the other way as he cheetoed on the world's most useless game. He could not even apply his cheeto coating evenly and consistently.

no shit Sherlock? They like him better than Trump, so of course that's going to be how they see things. Next great revelation, water is wet!

That said when is what other countries think of our president's performance more important than what it's citizens think of his performance?
