Rep for who guesses what type of critter it is! :mystery:

It's quite a sad tale of how I've come about it. I've been keeping my hand in at work over the last couple of weeks by attending repossessions. The owners of the house I attended last wasn't prepared for eviction, and couldn't take it with them with their other pets (two dogs and a cat).

I had to call the RSPCA, but they were reluctant to take it because it wasn't technically abandoned, so I braved the wrath of the OH and brought it home with me.

The owners can have it back providing they claim it by next Wednesday (I hope they do, 'cause it was obviously a young kid's pet, and it is kinda smelly). If they don't, I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with it :( Maybe contact the RSPCA again or try to find it a more permanent home because I don't want to keep it.

If it's a ferret, they are indeed, smelly. You've got to clean their cages at least every other day.

    Nope not a rabbit or a mouse/rat! :)

    Clues:

Around 25 species fall under this name, mainly in North America, although one species is native to Eurasia.

Their omnivorous diet consists of grain, nuts, birds' eggs, fungi, worms, and insects.

They construct expansive burrows which can be more than 3.5m in length with several well-concealed entrances.

We've got lots of squirrels around here. Never saw a white one, though. I don't know anyone who's kept one as a pet.

A mate of mine had 2 chipmonks when i was at school. They have soooo much energy. They never bothered with the wheel in the cage they just ran round the cage itself. And not round the bottom. They went up the wall along the roof and down the other wall.
They did this at about 300 RPM :)

We've got a rash of the little buggers around the property this year. They're too damn cute. They chase each other around and do Bugs Bunny schtick.

I actually saw one being chased by another. The chased one ducked into a hole and the chaser didn't notice and overran the hole. Then the chasee popped up behind him and started chasing HIM.

Er, no. They were reluctant to take it because unless there are cameras running they will do everything they can to get out of actually helping animals. :garamet:
I've given up on the RSPCA after a couple of run-ins with them.

I've had to resort to getting large Rubbermaid storage containers and cutting holes in them for air to use in abandoning the kittens that get dumped in my yard at the local Humane Society. They're getting smart, though, they've put up cameras.
