pretty sure that this requires two separate holes, if not external piping...

I'm thinking like an over/under double barrel?

usually for a single barrel human the splitting of a stream takes a lot more distance.

    also, found this...

Looks like he's holding one between his index finger and middle finger, the second one between his middle finger and ring finger.

Second thought, from the angle, you can't see the tips. So this particular Klingon appears to have a pair of short dicks. This might imply that Klingons aren't that well endowed. So they may have two, but they're fairly small. May or may not be an ad be advantageous trade off.

I'm watching William Shatner's documentary on the making of TNG right now.

Remember how Gene Roddenberry wrote lyrics to Alexander Courage's title theme so he could grab a share of Courage's royalty payments? Apparently he did the same thing to D.C. Fontana when writing "Encounter at Farpoint," and that's where the Q framework came from.

Would the pilot have been stronger or weaker if it had just been about the crew solving the mystery of Farpoint Station, without the humanity-put-on-trial-by-an-omnipotent-being aspect?

What would TNG have been like without Q?

I know Starfleet had already tasked Picard with "the mystery of Farpoint" before he encountered Q, but it's such a dumb vague order in relation to a station that the Federation is already using as a dropoff point for high level personnel.

Q showing up to raise the stakes elevates the pilot to an essential episode and not just another season 1 misfire that you skip when you're trying to sell someone on TNG.

It does seem sort of odd that, prior to sending the Enterprise off to a mission on the very edge of explored space, Starfleet would send at least one other ship way the fuck out into the boonies to drop off Riker, Crusher and LaForge instead of having the Enterprise pick them up someplace a little more convenient...

EaF is a clumsy episode. The Q story is the one that matters, the Farpoint mystery should have been, at best, an aside (Ah! You didn't fuck this up, interesting") in terms of the trial. The only way the thing makes sense to me is that the Farpoint mystery is just something that happens to be going on while the real plot unfolds.

It's also a dick move for them to drag Admiral McCoy all the way out there for a ceremonial inspection of sickbay.

On that tangent, am I the only one who doesn't think it's good writing if a show needs three seasons to get good (or moderately watchable, in Enterprise's case)? Like, TNG got lienency because it was 1987 and there were three (soon to be four) network stations and cable was still pretty expensive. That goodwill was long exhausted by the time Enterprise rolled out and the last people to realize that were Paramount and the Beeps.

I don't think it's an especially unpopular opinion on Wordforge but the number of people crying about Enterprise has me scratching my head, and I say that coming into Trek via that show.

Too much of America network television is all about quantity over quality. The streaming era shows have been much better in terms of that, but I often worry they'll fall back into that pattern of cranking out mediocre material to fill the slot instead of taking more time to make sure they're creating something good. I've mentioned before that I thought the first season of Picard was one or two rewrites away from greatness.

Yes and no. Sometimes it can take a while to hash out an idea to get it right. You have to get it out there, as fully fleshed as possible, in order to sort it all out. So, there are times when you should be willing to forgive that a series doesn't quite work right out of the gate, as until it's realized fully, with actors, scripts, sets, etc., you can't figure out important specifics. That doesn't mean that it's okay to put absolute shit out there, but if a concept has a really good germ behind it, then it's worth dealing with the potholes in the beginning as folks figure out where they're going and what they're doing.

Eh.... There are more than enough shows that got both plots and characters right from the very start. I feel like TOS pretty much nailed down the basic format of how most Star Trek series are supposed to work, other than the DS9 guys I don't have a lot of sympathy for the creative teams that couldn't get things right with when they already had that massive head start from TOS.

Whatever else I could say about Voyager, I appreciate that they quickly picked a lane (fun accessible TNG-lite with at least a little action every episode) and stuck with it.

I think that your memory is faulty. Go watch the first seasons of a lot of series and you'll quickly find that they don't reflect what you remember of the show because your memories are tainted by the later seasons. Early on in the first season of TOS they often had a panicky Spock. Hardly the character we remember today, regardless of who might be playing him. (Ooooh, and just wait, in about 20 years, there will be a panic about someone playing a female/enby Spock.)

Garbage man in space has been done... so it'd have to be pitched as your Orville.

Ok, I wandered in, read the conversation so far. Yup, it's an internet star trek conversation, but I guess I had never seen a platypus dick before.

    Things I have learned
I never want to be reincarnated as a female platypus.

    Things I am now pondering
Did the creators of star trek actually go so far as to learn some lizards have 2 dicks so they put that into klingon anatomy. Someone else had that thought and decided to make it cannon and knew someday people would discuss it like this. Isn't the universe wonderful.

glad I stopped in, and thanks for adding to the twists in my mind.

You are getting your red room discussion on my platypus dick. That is really a bit annoying because I am specifically7 coming to this thread for the platipi dicks at this point. Is it platipusses? Nope, spellchecker did not like that one either. Maybe it is platypuses? Oh that is it.

I am actually thinking about getting a platypus dick tattoo. It probably would turn out bad and not look like one, but who would ever know?

    Coincidence.
All the old costumes were auctioned off, so nuTrek is starting from scratch.
