A whole lot of Buddhist monks are protesting for freedom and democracy in Burma right now, while risking their lives. They are the best hope for their people. The Buddhist monks are even feared by the brutal Burmese regime. I hope they will prevail. Let freedom ring with a shotgun, err, a prayer wheel blast!
I've already made a thread about that. And one about Buddhists being an example of a "good" religion.
I have to admit that dousing one's self in gasoline and burning alive while sitting peacefully in the middle of a street is a hell of a way to make a point. This is something that the American Hippie needs to look into.
I dispute the notion that there are clearly better alternatives. As George Carlin once put it, "Lets see a little smoke to match that fire in your belly!"
Fuck that shit about "good" or "bad" religions. I just think that the heroic Burmese people who take part in this risky revolution attempt deserve a little more attention The fate of millions of people is at stake right at this moment. All the followers of all the different deities, may it be Jehowa, Allah, Brahma or even the Demiurge, should pray now. And even the Atheists should support the struggle for freedom with some good old channeling...
I agree. But it's your thread title! This goes to show that true democracy is built from the bottom-up, at grassroots level. It's quite awe-inspiring when this sort of thing occurs.
As long as the Junta has to go, the Buddhists monks should be allowed to use every means possible. They'll turn into fierce Shaolin soon, I hope! Seriously: I pray that this peaceful revolution will not end in a disaster. Asian regimes tend to use extreme measures when they're challenged.
Any person who gives serious intellectual consideration to the questions address by religion deserves the freedom to act on his or her conclusions within the boundries of respecting the same rights in others. Religious freedom is always worthy of support.
I'm an atheist because I am a rationalist, and materialist, and a skeptic...so no mediums or other ooga-booga either please, thank you. Anyway, as a humanist, I support these Buddhists.
The air is getting thicker in Burma. Some people have been killed. This revolution may end in a tragedy, because the Junta is not ready to step down. Supported by the Chinese and India, they will defend their privileges. I'm rather pessimistic right at this moment. Fuck these militaristic assholes, and fuck India and China for supporting these criminals.
