Almost sounds like you were (or would have been) one of the ones who was "bullied." That edge in your "voice" here sounds like just exactly that kind of fear. You're not worried that if neg-reps are given teeth again that you might be on the receiving end of the kind of bullshit you like to dish out, are you?

    Oh, and before you protest:

No, your bagging on others' physical appearance is not more creative, more clever or more original than brainlessly pushing the neg-rep button, so save your dismissive bullshit. You're no better than any "rep-warrior" yourself. Nor are you any more justified, because you are a repetitive, annoying cunt, yourself. Judge not.

There was no bullying to it. Certain posters were shitting up the board and got rewarded with little red pips.

It's not personal appearance, it's the man behind the mug. And no, I'm not worried about neg reps from a personal standpoint, I just don't like what it does to the board, even though the thought of negging visionrazer 30 times a day is appealing.

I don't ever recall gul getting repwarred.

If it was all about political affiliations and only leftists like actormike got negged, how does one explain Ron Paul getting negged deep into the red?

I think this post only has credibility once Gul has locked his account for the second time in a year and had a massive meltdown on Facebook.

People in glass houses and all that.....

Well, what's your explanation for it? I mean, if it has nothing to do with politics, you probably participated in that too, right?

Because it was about suppressing the stupid. Ron Paul, therefore, and Midnight "Otter" Funeral, were equally as liable to get negged into the red for being stupid as ConfederateMilquetoast or Liet were for being stupid. The two groups just happened to have different "causes celebre" for which they indulge in being stupid.

And there y'are. Perfectly sensible, perfectly logical, no? :)

You don't know the "man behind the mug" and you never will. You've demonstrated your absolute untrustworthiness. Doesn't bother you any, I'm gratified to know who I can trust, works out for both of us.

Ohhhh, and he's back! The man behind the mug!

    And he's out of control!

And he's back! The man behind the mug!

And he crawled. Out. Of. His. Hole!

Well this thread is proof positive that the whole rep system needs to be shut off. NO comments at all. No points. No nothing.

Got something to say? Say it in a post.

You've made that statement before, but have never explained the logic behind it (can't have it as you want no one should).

As it is now, the only complaint is the repwhiners who want to go back. The system itself isn't causing any problems or complaints. Quite a few people have expressed that they enjoy the quick comment aspect. What will getting rid of it accomplish?

Despite what has been said above, the reality is that it takes no longer to quote a post and reply than it does to click the rep box and post a comment. So, from that point of view, it seems to boil down to whether or not people want the pos rep element sustained.

Better to piss everybody off than to piss off only the people who can't explain why neg-rep is so important to them?

Certainly comments are better than routinely having huge nested "+1," "I agree!", ":techman:," "," "fuck off and die, you inebriate choad" type replies.

There's always a tradeoff in forums between linear mode, where it's easy to see which posts are new, and threaded mode, where there's a lot less need for quote clutter. Given how long threads can run on wordforge, threaded mode isn't a viable option and comments mitigate the downside of linear mode.

that wasn't what it was for me. i rep people when they say something interesting/funny or sometimes when i just want to say hi but don't have anything interesting enough to say to send a PM or start a thread.

It's less about the time it takes to do it than it is about some things not being worth the thread clutter that putting short rep-style comments in a thread would bring about. Again, it's basically like the Facebook "like" button with short comment functionality attached.

I have stated several times that this poll will decide the issue. I'd look pretty damn stupid to not follow through on that after promising it.

Most other polls also said what they were...asking the membership what they thought...but no promises that those polls were making policy.

And Muad...again who are these people who left over rep? Let alone "a lot of them"?? The people you listed either left for reasons not associated with rep at all or are largely still here...including you....even if it's less often. And frankly, that says more about you guys than the board.

You guys used to say people who left over rep were thin-skinned pussies with no life. That it didn't mean anything and anyone running off over it was a complete idiot.

Funny how that doesn't apply to you when the tables are turned. You act no differently than the people you mocked in the past. And even now you care more about being able to hound people you don't like than me leaving the decision up to membership. I bet if I had just flicked the switch the way you want it, you wouldn't have had a single issue with me not giving anyone a choice.

So this is your chance to get it back. Get your buddies to come back and vote if it's that important to you. It will probably be the last chance for a long time, like a clear and obvious shift in how the board feels about it as this time it's the membership's responsibility where it goes and if anyone doesn't like the results you only have yourselves to blame for it.

IIRC, TKO wanted to keep rep the way it was before, too. despite how some people want to make it out like only big bad rep warriors () want rep back, that just isn't the case. some of us realize that it's just a tool, and kind of a useful one. in fact, i'm pretty sure both of us (TKO and myself) have given both pos and neg rep to each other.......no political affilliation, rep warring, or popularity contest. we just use it for....ya know....agreeing and disagreeing.

Ramen refuses to believe that not everyone is exactly like him and he therefore projects his faults onto others. Still, he manages to see them as virtues in his case and faults only in people he doesn't like.

This prevalence of this kind of behavior is a large part of why wordforge can't have nice things.

And neither one of you ran off like children because it didn't go your way, either.

And why a poll is necessary...there is now way to tell a clear majority of either side of the debate without asking people to vote.

However, neither you nor TKO threw a tantrum and stormed off over it, and I think those people are who Tamar was addressing.

my comment wasn't really to tamar. just my thoughts on the thread in general. yes, you're right. i thought it was annoying when they took away the toy, but not annoying enough to leave. wordforge could be reduced to the saddest of boards or a half-functioning, old-school chat room, and i'd still stop by to say hi. i actually care about some of the people here and how they are doing in real life. i did like all my shiny green pips, though. :(

While I would never presume to speak for UA, if you read any thread about rep or anything in the help desk he has always maintained that the board owner may do whatever he wants with the board. He goes from trekbbs to here and back again and doesn't care about "the direction" of the board. From all I know of him, he comes here and to trekbbs to ease the boredom of an 8 hour day stuck in an office.

He doesn't give a fuck about people's opinion in real life, do you honestly think gives a fuck about red pips, green pips or no pips?

No, he doesn't. He brings quips and quotes and one-liners. The only thing he brings to this board that I don't is a truckload of rightwing butthurt.

I disagree with most people I like at different times. That's what a real friendship is about - realizing your differences and staying friends despite them. There are plenty of people here I like, but disagree with - UA included. But, I never disliked them because of their differences.

OTOH, there are people here who, at first "liked" me, then realized my political opinions were too different than theirs and have decided they no longer "like" me. Says more about them than it does me.

    lmfao

When you say "shitting up the board" what you mean is "anyone with a liberal opinion". If that were not the case, how did Sokar stay in the green? And how did Megatron get put back in the green? And everybody favorite jester, apostle?

Those were the people shitting up the board. You know it. I know it. and everyone on the board knows it.

oh, this reminds me. if they do end up getting rid of rep completely, I'll need someone to show me how to bookmark threads to come back to later. i have a short attention span, so if someone responds to one of my posts but by the time i log back in it's off the front page, i'll forget. usually rep is what reminds me what threads i was posting in.
