Not really, it cost 105m to make and made 115m and sold 1.5million copies on the first day.

Wouldn't say it kicked spiderman 3 in the balls in the box office, but it made a little bit of money.

Pitch Black was good B-movie sci-fi fun.

The Chronicles of Riddick was an abortion.

Can't say I'm excited about this.

Pitch Black was good. Chronicles of Riddick was a fun scifi popcorn flick with good action.

I'll be interested in seeing how they follow up Chronicles, assuming the next flicks aren't prequels, 'cause at the end of it, Riddick pretty much has control of the Necromongers, who appear to be the fiercest group of fighters in the known space.

What I would like is a history of the freaking galaxy that Riddick resides in. Some background.

And whats the deal with the Muslim thing? Nothing against it but I'd be interested to know why it is featured so heavily in the three movies.

    Hmm?

Has anyone played the Riddick game that came out a few years ago?

Are they going to erase CoR? B/c his character in PB had alot of potential, and I'd like to see some good sequels come from that.

    Huh.

I didn't even realize Pitch Black and Chronicles Of Riddick were the same series.

Then again, I don't remember if I even saw Chronicles Of Riddick.

    I hear I didn't miss much.

I finally watched Spiderman 3 on DVD the other day - and while I enjoyed the first film and liked the second one okay - the third movie was total pile of *shit*.

My son was a HUGE Spiderman fan when he was younger (4-7) and now he has NO interest in the franchise. I don't blame him. :(

Well, Riddick didn't FEEL like it was in the same 'verse as Pitch Black anyway.

Pitch Black felt like it was in a version of the Aliens universe. Chronicles of Riddick felt more like it was set a few millenia before Dune.

    Very accurate observation.

In fact, when I saw teh first add for Riddick, I heard quite a few people remark it looked very Dune-esq. Sadly,it wasn't.

I've never been able to finish Riddick - some more explanation of the "underverse" would have been nice.

Good idea. Best to just ignore it.

It's also interesting to note that CoR completely rewrote the Riddick character. Instead of being a convict who had his eyes surgically altered to see in the dark (as we are told in Pitch Black), in CoR he somehow becomes a member of some magical race that has super duper eyesight.

Incorrect. In CoR, he talks to the cute chick (Alexis Davelos) about where he got those eyes. Says something about the prison where he got them.

CoR is one of my big guilty pleasures. Can't wait till the next ones comes out.

Furians are just really tough, and Riddick wasn't wiped out with the rest because he was in prison somewhere. Note: The necromonger-furian in CoR didn't have special eyesight.

I guess I was wrong.

In any event, it doesn't change the fact that Riddick was a gargantuan whale-sized turd. :diacanu:

Ancalagon has it right. They should just ignore Riddick and reboot the whole franchise from Pitch Black.

I loved Pitch Black and I like Chronicles, but I do admit that if you blink a few times it could make it hard to follow. \

i'm happy to hear that there will be more.

Funny to hear people bitching about something new, albeit of debatable quality. Next week they'll be bitching that Hollywood has no new ideas and keeps remaking the same crap over and over again.

I heard the proposed third movie was going to be about Riddick leading the Necromongers on a Crusade against the Underverse.

The first movie certainly appeared to be lower tech, but then what we saw in the 2nd movie was the Necromonger Crusade - their tech level was superior to every other planets to that point, one of the reasons they were unstoppable.

I'd be quite happy to see a 3rd one if it's in the same ball park as the 2nd. Might pop in the DVD in tonight, matter of fact. :)

i think he did tell her that in Pitch Black. It was the scene when he's handcuffed to a beam and the girl (who at that time you think is a boy) comes down and asks how to get eyes like that. Later, during CoR, when Riddick found her in a prison she beats the shit out of him and gets pissed cause he lied to her about his eyes. i didn't know it was a deviation from the original story. is there a comic book or something?

I think the best bet would be to acknowledge that PB and COR are two different stories in two different 'verses. Then pick the one they want to stick with and run with it from there.

Doesn't necessarily need to be a deviation from the original story. In PB, he tells the story of the prison doctor who did it. In CoR, she's pissed because she got herself sent to that prison and there wasn't any such doctor.

So? Time had passed. Maybe the doctor died, was released or escaped (if a convict himself), was reassigned (if a prison employee), etc.... Plenty of plausible explanations. Nothing in CoR necessarily contradicts Riddick's story about his eyes. Certainly not beyond suspension of disbelief...

I believe the Muslim connection came in only because one of the secondary, recurring characters was Muslim.

It seemed to have had very little to do with the actual plotline. The second film was actually ironic in that it showed peaceful, civilized Muslims confronted with the prospect of being forcibly converted by a younger, more militant religion - somewhat of a turnabout to current events.
