A thought just occured to me, that's related to this. Now, imagine if you will, that when it comes to abortion rights, we're basically only able to maintain the status quo where it is legal in some states, but not legal in others. No way to get a Federal law passed that settles the matter one way or the other, and no Constitutional amendment either enshrining it or completely blocking it. What will America look like in ~20 years? Let me throw in a couple of other factors, that aren't unreasonable, considering the positions some states are taking on the matter. 1.) If State A says that abortion is murder and anyone who leaves the state should be tried for murder when they return, these states won't lodge charges against someone who leaves the state to have an abortion and never returns (or if they do lodge charges, they won't try to extradite the people from states after they've left). 2.) Some states completely ban contraception, along with abortion. (Leaving the state to get an abortion might still be okay, though.) What can we expect to happen? In both cases, I think that we can expect any woman who can afford to do so will move out of state as quickly as possible. The majority of these will be white women. I don't know how the male-to-female ratio in a place like Texas compares to California (regardless of race), but it doesn't seem unlikely to me that we'll see a situation where in states like Texas, there will be more men than women, and the majority of women will be POC. What do you think folks like Fucker Carlson, who subscribe to "white replacement theory" will make of that?
they don't want to leave it to the states anyway. The Christian nationalist orgs like ADF are already saying out loud they want a national ban and state Republicans are trying to figure out how to prosecute people who leave the state and get an abortion - and anyone who helps them.
Sadly I could post this in any of several threads here but in the midst of "which 7 or 8 rights will these assholes cancel next?" discussion (answer: doesn't matter the order, they'll take all of them) I just want to remind everyone that I fucking told y'all so (including the right wingers who have abandoned the board rather than defend the indefensible) I said November 2016 that America was basically over, the cancer was/is fatal and we're just living through the symptoms. Honestly, the tumor didn't start in 2016, it just metastasized. You can go back to multiple points in the last century and identify a key progression of the disease. Maybe we could have had a miracle cure if the Democratic party was full of people like Warren and AOC and Porter and Talib and Murphy and Schatz... but it's not, particularly not in the leadership. It's over folks. It's BEEN over. at some point in time the sane states will have to amputate if they expect to get rid of the tumors. Else it will kill them too.
I hear you on "bad guys will get women pregnant". But the incidence of rape/incest pregnancies is extremely low compared to all other abortions. And states will be allowed to enact laws for these cases if they so choose. I don't think we're very far off here, actually.
So they're "just gonna have to take one for the team" huh? This is how they're going to try to make "suck it up, rape victims" sound calmly rational. Pay attention.
Despair is seductive, but history shows that evil is powerful, but not invincible, and it also shows that history itself is not inevitable. The progress they're undoing was made by good people fighting and winning. It's an insult to them to just give up.
How is it a felony? From the code section TLS cited, it's an infraction or misdemeanor at most (if you completely ignore the First Amendment or the fact the law doesn't prohibit protesting).
@Diacanu often likes to put words in people's mouths, it's how he feels he's able to win arguments. He's incredibly insecure that way
If you interpret 18 US Code § 1507 in the same way that the gun strokers interpret the Second Amendment, (that is, very broadly and without sound logic) you could easily say that there's no intent on the part of the protestors to obstruct or impede the administration of justice. Therefore, not illegal. FREEDUMB!!!1!
No, TLS is a joke, always has been You're just as bad though. I don't do the extremist thing on either side, sorry
Dicky doesn’t respond to anything. He does his clown routine and rapid fires GFY, facepalm and fantasy reps. That’s it, that’s all he’s got.
Senate fails to advance bill protecting abortion rights ahead of Supreme Court decision Fucking Joe Manchin, yet again.
So Democrats with a majority in both houses and the presidency can’t even pass legislation that’s been on their agenda for fifty years. Maybe baby killing isn’t as popular as the radical left wishes it would be.
