Will the media give it any attention or roundly ignore it, par the course?

Paul....has SOME good ideas, but many of them are loony and unrealistic.

In your opinion, what are some of his ideas that fall into each category?

I think he reads the Internet too much without realizing that this never, ever translates into the real world. Online, people try to look cool by being 'libertarian', maybe even convincing themselves by donating 5 dollars or something. But come election day, alone in their booth, they vote for the big two (or the Repugs, in his case) like the good little sheep they are. I'd even go so far and say that online hype is damaging to any bid.

^I don't know . . . I see a lot of Ron Paul signs around, more than for the other candidates, and hear people speaking favorably about him when I'm out and about. More than any other libertarian-leaning politician.

Ron Paul had/has Obama level zombies because he says stupid shit like abolishing all these taxes and massively shrinking the government. Things that play really well to Joe Sixpack who has no clue...in reality they won't work.

    Cut Taxes...yes..
    Shrink Government...yes..

But he (and his drones) take those ideas to:fantasyworld:levels

^Massively shrinking government is the logical step after cutting taxes. Under Bush, massive tax cuts were followed by an increase in government. We have so many redundant bureaucracies and federal agencies, it's crazy.

Ron Paul did one thing, and one thing alone, quite well.

He used his business acumen to sell not a product, but himself. He got a hold of some people who felt, rightly or otherwise, disenfranchised by the Republican party, then marketed them as a "rEVOLution." His campaign was little more than the "Million Dollar Web Page" for campaign finance - people who believe hard are far more willing to part with their money than the lackadaisical voters that make up most of America.

And that's why he looks so much more well-supported than he really is - he just has a small, hardcore group of people behind him. They will happily spam roadsides with plastic Ron Paul signs, they will cover the backs of their automobiles in bumper stickers. But ultimately, they're just speaking loudly - the mainstream supporters are ultimately wielding the sticks and speaking oh-so-softly by their numbers alone.

In short, he did nothing that was really amazing. Nothing that should make him anything other than a laughworthy bump on the road to November. He was just selling a product. Libertarianism, boxed up and ready for quick sale and consumption - only $24.95, plus S&H.

Good to see that he's blowing even more of that money he earned out of his ass, though. Definitely fiscally responsible to stage a pity party because the overwhelming majority of America thought him to be a nutjob.

I think it's more true that the overwhelming majority of America isn't ready to let go of politics as usual.

Actually, I thought our founding fathers held mostly Enlightenment views, which were not considered loony and unrealistic by most educated men of that time.

People don't make a change in their lives unless they need to. Simple truth. I'm guessing that the overwhelming majority of America really doesn't feel like the system needs to be changed.

Not that Ron Paul was such a change, anyway. The only thing Ron Paul did differently was treat people as mere sales targets rather than mere votes.

Okay, that was a bit insane, mostly because of the risk involved. But it wasn't loony or unrealistic.
The ideas that they stood for came from John Locke and other Enlightenment thinkers. The Declaration of Independence is a cleverly-written piece of propaganda that got people rallied up. People had already begun to form committees in the colonies to talk about government representation and to deal with political issues. Battles had already broken out in the North, and just enough people supported the Revolution that it could take place.
The Founding Fathers planned their moves very carefully and wrote their propaganda extremely well, and they took action once they had some form of government and budget set up. What they did wasn't loony or unrealistic, it was brilliant.

Man, Paul supporters can be real nut cases. That's right Jerry, the majority of Americans believe in Ron Paul's views, we just happened to vote for someone else because of the big bad media.

After a decade it should be blindingly obvious that internet popularity doesn't translate to the real world. If it did we'd be enjoying the sixth season of Firefly and waiting for Snakes On A Plane 2 to open this summer.

Saying a bunch of crap that the unwashed masses like to hear, but won't work in reality is a sales pitch...also...even if the universe imploded and he got elected, not a single one of his pie-in-the-sky ideas would get through congress.
