I haven’t worked a graveyard shift in a long time, but it’s usually not that busy and you usually don’t don’t cycle both of them at at the same time so it’s not really that hard, if you’ve done it as many times as I have.

They/them does not work all the time. Bill is in a band. They play a lot of venues. They plays a lot of venues. They wear a dress. They wears a dress. If someone said these things to you there would be some confusion as to exactly WTF is being said. Instead, you could use a new pronoun which context would fit better. Xe wears a dress lets you know bill, who is gender fluid or trans, wears a dress and not the rest of xer bandmates.

The reality is they/them used in that way refers somewhat to a general group of people in your example. Let us just do new pronouns if you are referring to someone as gender fluid or androgen. This way when you use a plural to refer to someone we know they have multiple personalities.

Because you automatically assume that merit wasn't the deciding factor when the winner of a selection process isn't a straight white Christian cis man, and that merit had to be the deciding factor in previous processes where anyone who wasn't a straight white Christian cis man wasn't even considered.
