Social security's not going to be there when I'm eligible anyway so scrap it and let me keep my money.

Wait wait, you just said Republicans aren't going to get rid of social security. But you want someone to do so. So why are you voting for the people you don't believe will do so?

I don't want anyone to scrap it and I don't think anyone will, but I do think it's going to be gone by the time I retire so if I had my choice, I'd rather just keep my money. That's not the same thing as saying I hope someone does get rid of it.

Wanting to keep your money is the same as wanting it scrapped, or at least wanting the Fed to pay for Social Security with newly printed money. Given how highly you think of the Fed, you'll forgive me for concluding the first.

Why not? Taxation without spending seems more likely to lead to the tax being repealed than taxation with spending to go along with it.
