so when the interrogation goes south fatally the contingency is to dismember the victim and sneak them out of the country? you know fuck it, why even try to come up with any excuse that might be plausible - let's just go with fraternity hazing gone too far!
"Oh, fuck! He's dead! What do we do, Abdul?" "We can say it was a heart attack!" "But all his fingers are broken and he's missing several teeth." "Aaaaaah...fuck it...get the saw."
Except the 15 man team came with a bone saw, plastic sheeting, and a forensic specialist to help clean up the scene of the crime. That tells me murder was on their mind not just interrogation. Then there was the matter of bringing along a half dozen empty waterproof suitcases for transporting dismembered body parts.
I must say that it is interesting - particularly in the case of the media - that the death of one journalist elicits such a strong response, whereas the litany of warcrimes in Yemen and human rights abuses domestically barely raises a murmur.
And I'm sure the Saudi higher-ups will give precisely zero fucks. Except perhaps that they might have already paid them.
That's what always happens. A western journalist is murdered or a western magazine is violently attacked, the rest of the media is hysterical. A bunch of ordinary brown people or asians are slaughtered in Yemen or Myanmar? Barely a peep.
Why bother assassinating thelow-level contractors while leaving the creeps that gave the orders untouched? The CEO doesn't care how many interns you kill.
It's firstly an in-group thing. The media has become such a small microcosm of people that know each other that it's kind of scary, and it leads into my second point that journalism has lost a lot of it's professionalism, passion, and, integrity. When was the last time you saw any true investigative journalism? It's easier to hang out in the white house press room and bitch and moan about politics.
I just thought about this: it was interrogation taken too far? Why the fuck was he being interrogated in the first place? Did I miss something here?
How does the conversation go now? "Sorry guys, about that job we paid you to do for us last week, we have to jail you for life for it."
All the time. Frontline, ProPublica, NYT, and the Washington Post all are doing great investigative work and have been for quite a long while.
More like: "Good work on your mission, men. You executed the plan perfectly. Unfortunately, for the good of the Kingdom, you must now all be put to death. His Majesty thanks you for your service."
Well, if this is true, the whole interrogation-gone-wrong story isn't going to fly, and someone needs to be hung out to dry. Khashoggi dismembered WHILE STILL ALIVE, took 7 minutes to die.
The Prince has offered some proof that the Saudis weren't behind this. (Translation: Do not murder Khashoggi.)
For one thing, it seems the Turkish authorities aren't inclined to do the Saudis any favors, at least as far as story-crafting goes.
They even traveled under diplomatic immunity. That is how they counted on their luggqge full of sawed up human body parts not being searched.
I mentioned that a couple of days ago. Diplomatic immunity is such bullshit. It puts you literally above the law. In this case it allows you to get away with murder.
I've also seen plenty of investigative journalism from outlets like VICE, Vox, Slate, etc. But since those are so called "left wing" outlets the message isn't going to get through to Bubba in lower Alabama. Trump has given every indication he will roll over for the Saudis and apply no pressure. How's that "I'm not a puppet you're a puppet" thing working out for the Republicans?
Trump should cancel the arms deal. I don’t think we should be selling arms to them in the first place though.
You don't cut the fingers off a person during an interrogation unless you fully intend to kill (and disappear) them after you get your answers. Otherwise, you're a little lacking in deniability when your (now) fingerless subject tells the world what you did. What the hell could he have had on the Saudis that would lead them to this?
