The Economist has an article about how California has outperformed Florida and Texas in terms of % GDP growth and I noticed a little something… https://www.economist.com/finance-a...ifornia-suffers-from-a-tech-curse-is-he-right Anyone else see it? Maybe it is the apples of Eastern WA…
My question is, who's between Washington and California? Also, Alaska, you, uh, having a little trouble there? Proximity to Russia causing a little performance anxiety?
The dead weight that is Seattle continues to drag down the entire state. NEW: Washington is projected to collect $762 million more in revenues in the current two-year budget period than projected last quarter, according to figures released Friday by the Economic and Revenue Forecast Council. @kcwithycombe https://twitter.com/seattletimes/status/1593753642670202882?s=46&t=dUdMNlJZU9TLfbme8uRCLw
For some comparison: Kentucky Projects $457 Million General Fund Deficit, May Need Special Session https://spectrumnews1.com/ky/louisv...-may-need-special-session-to-deal-with-budget (Keep in mind that 40% of Kentucky’s General Fund comes from Federal Funds Transfers from Productive States like WA.)
https://twitter.com/ronpdavis/status/1647058615461908480 Third fastest growing economy in the nation last year (pretty amazing considering downtown is still smoking crater due to the BLM/ANTIFA riots). 110% GPD growth over last decade. Not too shabby.
Seattle is once again the fastest-growing big city, census data shows https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/data/seattle-is-once-again-the-fastest-growing-big-city-census-data-shows/ Talk about a miracle! Twelve years since Seattle killed all its jobs and theee years since downtown was destroyed by BLM/ANTIFA RIOTS and yet it somehow just won’t stop being one of fastest growing cities (both in pop and economy) in the nation.
I got glimpse of what's going on there during a recent weekend visit. The waterfront has been revitalized by the elimination of the hideous eyesore known as the Alaskan Viaduct. This gives the Pioneer Square area a chance of turning into something other than a homeless hangout. There are still plenty of homeless, but I never felt unsafe. My big complaint is that there really are very few places to eat. The CitizenM hotel is really nice. Seattle is still not a place full of warm, fuzzy people, but that's a quibble, not a real complaint. It feels alive and I didn't see any signs of ANTIFA or BLM terrorism.
It's been 30 years since I lived and worked there, but eateries abound in Seattle. Good ones. As far as warm and fuzzy: I left. That should have improved the ambiance. Here is a local place (we used to walk there). It's still thriving. https://5spotseattle.com/
No doubt, but Pioneer Square is abit of a food desert. I could’ve eaten in the hotel, but really wasn’t that interested. I would bet that will change in the next year or two.
Yeah, COVID and work from home has REALLY hurt Pioneer Square. Almost all of my most regularly frequented lunch spots (Fuel, Berliner, Alt Stadt, Il Corvo…) from when I worked down there have either closed or moved. Joe’s and King Street Bar and Oven have both hung on but definitely dive bars.
That was my impression. I found a pizza joint. It wasn’t great, but I wasn’t out for fine dining anyway.
In fairness, it's hard to have jerbs in a smoking crater of ash and rubble, which I understand is all that's left of Seattle after BLM and Antifa burned it to the ground.
Now I wonder if it was King Street Bar and Oven you went to. Were there steps down when you went in? Trying to think of other places it could have been.
I stuck my nose in a bar off an alleyway...it was packed so I passed...the Mariners were playing that night. Didn't look bad, but since I dont' drink anymore.... Anyway, the Numero Uno pizza place was a couple of blocks up from the hotel on 1st Avenue. Okay for a quick slice.
Seattle named #2 summer travel destination in U.S. By Shawn Garrett, KIRO 7 News May 19, 2023 at 10:11 am PDT Seattle has been named the #2 top travel destination during the summer of 2023, according to a report from Allianz Partners. The report said the company looked at more than 1.6 million flight itineraries - between five and eight days in length - that were booked between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. 73% of the trips were for travel within the United States, while the remaining 27% was for international travelers. https://www.kiro7.com/news/local/seattle-named-2-summer-travel-destination-us/SEQWBUCRJRCXRD2KXLTARTE5LE/ Y’all! It has been THREE YEARS NOW! When is someone finally gonna tell these folks that Seattle is a smoking crater of a city after the BLM/ANTIFA RIOTS of ‘20 now filled with roaming packs of the unemployed after we killed all our jobs?!?!? Portland, similarly destroyed in the BLM/ANTIFA RIOTS of ‘20 also managed to make it into the top 10.
Might want to spread that word to the people and businesses who keep leaving California for those two states.
New population numbers just dropped. Between killing all the jobs and BLM/ANTIFA RIOTS completely destroying downtown there has been a mass exodus: Seattle: 779,200 in 2023. Seattle: 737,015 in 2020 Seattle: 608,660 in 2010. Seattle: 563,374 in 2000. https://twitter.com/chrisdaniels_tv/status/1674579707654971393 Wait… maybe I’m doing my math wrong…
The homeless are there, but I didn’t feel threatened or unsafe even though I was on foot by myself. Also I didn’t venture out after dark and that could have been different. I’ve been on that waterfront after dark pre-covid and didn’t have any encounters of any kind. Anecdotal, but that’s my experience. Mileage will vary with that kind of thing.

My grandfather seriously believed the world outside his view was destroyed by Obama and the liberals. Only we must have spared the golf courses so he could watch people on the golf channel. He also believed I was stealing his dirty underwear for some nefarious purpose other than to wash the fucking things.
