Fuck me, it's a wonder you make it home some evenings.

Either you have mad MMA skillz or Batman is personally watching over you.

Or Spidey - he's more into redheads.

    Nope.

I'm just laughing that even my mother was less nervous wandering around New Orleans at night than Albert seems to be - after the first evening where the group of four large tattooed men turned out to be totally harmless.

Did this happen to be towards the end of Bourbon past the Cat’s Meow and the yellow bollards blocking off the street and almost all the bars and clubs have rainbow flags?

Because if so I have a theory.

This was 2001, so I dunno if rainbow flags were in abundance.

Out of fairness to my mother as "of a certain generation", I didn't mention the ethnicity of the men, but let's just say they would not fare well if stopped by the police.

Oh they were in that part of Bourbon, even back then.

I was on a trip to New Orleans in the early nineties and while certain bars didn’t have rainbow flags, it wasn’t difficult to tell what clientele a bar catered to. Unless you were totally oblivious and think that are bars are generic establishments that resemble Cheers, but with different furniture.

I've been living in the Seattle area, hip deep in bums, since 2010. You know how many times I've had a bum try to step up? Twice. It's a shit hole, but you're hardly going to get "mugged on every corner".

Well, I figured the "wandering around" bit implied we were on the street, not in a bar - my Mum isn't the sort to go into a bar even in the UK unless they serve food. I figured Anc meant flags outside.

LMAO, you do realize part of the reason housing is higher here than most areas is because people actually WANT to live in California?

There's been more than one person I've met online whose parents think they can sell their West Coast homes they bought for $5 and a can of Coke in 1970 and move to Texas and Floria or Idaho, only to find the cost of living is not nearly as cheap as they thought it was, the locals are even more crazy than they realized (gun control is popular, even in known red counties in CA like Orange County) and--shocker of all shocks!--there's a totally different culture that may not mesh with what they're used to.

And they are quick to come crawling back to CA to live with their kids or buy a 1 bedroom condo because that's all they can afford with the money they got for their house.

none. there are a couple of bike thieves among them, but for the most part they don't shit where they live.
on the other hand, suburbanites and condo critters are down here every weekend causing trouble and nuisances, along with not infrequent assaults on people living rough in encampments.

heh-that's my few years in eastern Onterrible... Even Kingston, with multiple universities and being central in a triangle between Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa was culture shock.

weird thing is that after moving back to civilization, my worldview evolved. shortly after that a friend (who'd been pretty open minded while living here) moved there and in six months became about as passively bigoted as UA has ever been.

meh-at least they aren't out there mugging the regular citizenry as you claimed.

I'm not sure why you're harping on this if comparing the crime rates between Toronto and Omaha... I'll stay here where I can leave my apartment door ajar on hot nights like last.
Congrats on being in the USA's top 10% (and well above the national averages) of crime ridden hell holes for violence AND property offences.

It's like arming criminals is a bad idea or something...

What’s the big deal man, private property rights is just a concept made up by white colonizers that reinforces white supremacy, you didn’t build that.:hammer:

FFS, at least read the prior conversation for context, m'kay?

I live at the centre of one of the largest cities on the continent, I left my door open last night to get a breeze through my third floor walk up.

UA live in a mid west city a tenth the size and sleeps with a gun under his pillow behind (I'd imagine) at least a triple locked door.

so yeah, unless you have some sort of final solution (which you probably do if you think it through) I'll take minor theft and sleeping easy over the rape, murder, and other violent crime that seems epidemic in Omaha in comparison and some of it's residents in a constant state of fear.

No city with a "centre" is fit for habitation.

    why not?

also, is it possible for any human settlement not to have a centre of some sort? even Mayberry had a town square.

Did you not reply to me the other day about how we ( the collective we that weren’t even alive when this happened) stole land from the Indians , sorry, First Nations people, eh and therefore private property rights are not a legit thing? This was in response to something @Bickendan said to me. I know where it is so don’t go and try to delete it.

So I am pretty sure seattle is a jobless hellscape by now. certainly we were not lied to and it is at least in severe decline by now.

It is not like the right is completely full of shit and pretending it is dead. They would never lie to their sheeple.

I don't do that... but nice try at well poisoning.

We'll leave the racism alone other than to note it...

pretty sure I was specific about real estate, although for the reason that that which is obtained by force or fraud is not legitimately the property of the obtainer. could apply to anything.

No matter, that wasn't the topic anyway. What we were discussing was the severity and frequency of property crimes in two different urban areas.
