@mburtonk made a perfectly serviceable DST thread almost nine years ago, and @Lanzman and @Kommander had to fuck it all up.
Mine has a poll, with a Baba option and everything. Do the other 983 DST threads have polls? Probably only some of them.
I’d be interested in seeing ped deaths the week before and week after the change. I know last night it was suddenly a lot darker* than last week when picking the kids up and Jesus Christ everyone wears dark clothing in Seattle! This is just a feelings thing but I wonder if as a driver you kinda have preset alerts for what you need to pay attention to when and if the sudden change effects things. *it could just be that I live at such southern altitudes
I saw a funny post that talked about the end of DST: "That time of the year when 6am becomes 7am and 5pm becomes midnight."
^ But OTOH it is just below the horizon, so it never gets really dark, not even in the middle of the "night". Just as during the middle of the summer, the sun never gets high in the sky. It is up 24/7, but just making a sort of lopsided ring above the horizon (a bit higher on one side than on the other). It kind of messes up that whole "rises in the east and sets in the west" thing, when it never rises or sets, and goes all the way around...
A few days after DST, I was driving home. Some dumb shit thought it would be a good idea to be walking three/four feet in the roadway. Wearing a black hoodie, pants, and shoes. This was around 10pm. There's two sections of roadway within 2 miles where peds will do that somewhat often. I'll see one doing that 2 or 3 times a month. And the dumb fucks are almost always wearing dark clothing. And they don't ever try getting out of the roadway. Several years ago on a different section of that roadway. Some idiot decided that walking in the roadway at 1 in the morning was a good idea. He got high fived upside his head by a box truck side mirror. Of course the dumb ass was wearing dark clothes. The other two people he was with were fine. They were walking on the sidewalk. From what I can tell, on that road, within a 7 mile stretch. About 2 or 3 people get hit walking on the roadway, along with another 2 or 3 fatal auto accidents.
British Columbia is switching their clocks for the last time this Sunday. There's a lot going on in the world right now, but there is NO reason to not make daylight saving time permanent. Congress should pass my bill to finally lock the clock. https://bsky.app/profile/murray.senate.gov/post/3mgfxrjdkck2i No idea what a ‘British Columbia’ is but I agree with my Senator for permanent DST.
Yeah, the 'British' part's confusing because that's in Europe, and the 'Columbia' part's confusing because that's in 'South America' (and that's confusing because only the US is 'America').
I bet it lasts about 2 years. DST sucks, but it sucks less than the alternatives. Latest sunrise of after 9 AM? No thank you. And I’m a night owl.
Half-hour or ¾ hour offsets are only annoying to the people who don’t live in the time zone where they happen.
You're making it sound like having 'roos hopping around Cali, Oregon, and Washington is a bad thing. Wait, we get the koalas too? Fuck, they have the clap.
