Right-wing pols: "big companies are persons who totally have a right to give billions to support political positions!"

Cagle just wants Delta to suck the NRA’s dick like he and other conservatives do. He probably asks the NRA permission to take a shit like some sex slave thing.

I have a problem with companies being targeted for political positions.

I also have a problem with specific companies receiving tax benefits their competitors don’t. Is this a Delta only benefit?

While that is correct, by stating that the funding would not be instated/reinstated unless Delta “changes its position and fully reinstates its relationship with [the] NRA” this has turned into an issue of political free speech. The Supreme Court has addressed this as recently as Agency for International Development v. Alliance for Open Society International, Inc. (2013), in which it held that the government cannot force a non-government organization to express political views conditioned on receipt or continued receipt of funding.

    Relevant portions below:

In other words, the threat of the loss of funding against non-government organizations as a method for regulating speech is unconstitutional.

Edit: in other words, if Republicans had kept their mouths shut about the reason for not renewing this tax break--or come up with a legitimate reason--it probably would have been fine. I agree with eliminating the tax break in general, but not for the purposes of trying to regulate free speech.

    Haha.

According to Delta only 13 people have ever used the discount.

See people don’t join the NRA for the discounts. I didn’t even know there was a discount for Delta or for many of the other places.

    Define "political positions."

    I'll agree with that.
    Dunno.

No, but as the top employer and top airline in the state, it benefited Delta more than others.

    Me, neither.

Of course, it wasn't the discount that was significant. It was the public relations damage Delta did by severing ties with the NRA publicly at a critical time.

Evidence that this is bad PR for them? In the current environment at least it seems like they are coming out pretty well from it.

I don't fly Delta because they suck. If I were going to buy a gun, it wouldn't be from a big-box store. It would be from a locally owned store where I can check with friends to make sure they know what the fuck they're talking about.

In my whole life the only time I've bought a gun from a big retailer is when I got my hunting shotgun from Academy a few years ago. They were the exclusive retailer for those guns, so there wasn't another option available. With the exception of a couple of weapons I've bought online, the rest have all come from a handful of local shops where I do business.

I buy from a couple of shops near where I live. Last time I bought a gun from a sporting goods store? Sheesh, I think it was a Remington 870 about 10 years ago.

I've never bought anything at Dick's, but I almost did a couple of years back: a Ruger Precision Rifle (I love how the firearms industry has embraced video game terminology!).

I don't have a problem with Big box stores.

If you know what you want and they got it why do I need an employee to talk to other than to ring me up?

It looks like extortion to me. They are demanding a special group get a discount for these tax breaks. I think this is highly illegal. I'm not saying they cant take away the tax break but they cant take away the tax break and cite this as the reason.

It almost sounds like you're assuming that I (of all people) and everyone else knows enough about guns to do that. I don't and I know it.

    I don't know everything either.

But I do have the internet. I can learn a lot more from YouTube about a particular gun than I ever could from any employee.

Employee's at gun stores are not exempt from being crap. They are there to sell you a weapon. Some are good but you can see gun employees say the dumbest things if you go into a store enough times.

Edit: My decision to buy a Glock 43 was based on what I read all over the internet about it as well as various review videos on YouTube. I went to my local gun store and bought the gun. No need to be sold on it by the employee.

If we've learned anything from large retailers is that they don't know shit about what they've selling.
