Yes.

It's not so simple a question.

First, the age of consent for medical procedures is not 18 everywhere.
Second, not one of these young people is MEDICALLY transitioning under the local age of consent without parental approval (from whence comes the legal consent)
Third, the first stage of transition is social only, no medical involvement at all before puberty, the second stage - if the family can afford it - is completely reservable puberty delaying medication. Actual irreversible medical transition does not come until, in the vast majority of cases, 16 when cross-sex HRT can begin (in some cases, with certain doctors and patients who have been socially transitioned most of their life, that may begin as young as 14). In some states the age of medical consent is 16, if not lower.

Your parents do not force you to transition against your will. The child makes it known they identify and then the parent acts. There may only be a handful of parents who would abuse a child by forcing their transition against the child's will, and I am pretty sure the child would have multiple avenues to complain and get saved from that sort of abuse. It is a hold facts d lie that liberal parents are forcing transition on unwilling children.

That's a nice story, but you didn't finish the article. While the first part is about CA law banning it for minors, and quibbles about the grounds on which its justified but ultimately concludes it probably is anyway, the second half and the bigger point is that CA representatives in Congress are trying to ban it for adults nationwide, and how that's objectionable.

All of which is valuable information, but frankly, it doesn't convince me that the basic problem doesn't apply to both sex change and conversion torture. Yes, I agree that the former is a medically founded process and ethically and scientifically very different from the latter, but that is at heart a political stance. You shouldn't make that the basis for punishing people whose actions disagree with yours. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I think that it would be a good basic idea to have the same age limits apply to both decisions, and never let parents make them for their kids (explicitly -- it's bad enough that we can rarely help but be influenced by our parents' beliefs in any decisions we make at 16 or 18 years of age).

Ban it for kids and people who cannot consent and have others controlling them. As for adults they already have gay conversion therapy. It is called lying. If there are a couple of people who want to get spanked by a priest and told they are naughty gay men I think it may be the priest who has an issue of consent. Or not because God might allow it as long as you pretend it is straight therapy and not a gay S&M session.

A guy I used to work with came down with a life-threatening infection that was most likely caused by acupuncture. He talked to a lawyer about suing for malpractice, and the lawyer said that they faced an uphill battle since it would require another acupuncturist to testify against the first, and that hadn't happened yet. So he didn't sue. I imagine it's the same with other quacks.
